I'm "thinking" about buying an 03 big dog, just wondering if any of you ride across country on your bikes? Can the bike take that kinda trip i guess is what I need to be asking? I ride my bike on 1200 mile one way trips and just thought I would do something different and ride a big dog across county..Heard all the bad mouthing about the bikes, so I figure I would get on here and ask actual owners. THANKS for the feed back..

If you have a good maintenance routine it should be good to go, my bike has never broke down on me so far. Except for one time on a toy run a stuffed penguin got caught in the drive belt and broke it:bang: but that's another story:)

I'm no expert since I just got my Ridgeback, which I absolutely wouldn't ride probably any longer than 2 hours before having to get off and stretch lol.
Mine has no rear suspension however. If you were to get a K9 or any other BDM that has rear suspension I'm sure you'd be fine.

I've gone coast to coast a few times on my '05 chopper. Love riding this bike! To me it's far more comfortable on long runs than any Harley I've ever owned. Keep it maintained well and you'll be fine.

Its an 03 BD Chopper, 107inch S&S super sidewinder on it, which after reading more, I assume is what they come with. It's got 6500 or so miles on it.lIt ooks just like BBChopper's bike up there, just different paint. and its not right hand belt drive.I haven't bought it yet, wanted to check on long hall rides BEFOR I bought. Think I can get it for about 9300 bucks.Looks and appears mint!

Rode my 04 Ridgeback from PA to Wichita for the last (sadly) Tornado Rally at the factory.
23k miles later it is a rock!

Happy Motoring!

That 107 is made for cross country. I have crossed the country many times on my 2000 Vintage Classic and plan many more.

Welcome to BDB .
The 03 Chopper would be fine for cross country . If it has the two up seat and sissybar
option would be even better for the T bag set up . Mechanically - The bike would be OK
with the trip. Comfort - You would be streching every two hours or so anyway with that 3.5 gallon gas tank .
What model HD do you currently have ?

I ride my 08 Ridgeback about 120 to 150 miles on the highway before I stop for gas and a refreshing drink. I would stick to 450 to 500 miles a day, enjoy it, and for the long haul rest, get up, and do it again. You can get sleepy on those long drives.

Sold my Goldwing, kept the Big Dog, still ride wherever I go. Had one breakdown but wouldn't hesitate going coast to coast any time. Planning on riding it from south Florida to Sturgis this fall.

I'm about as far from BD home base as you can get here in Australia, plenty of others in our BIG ISLAND New Zealand and Europe. We all ride and have pride in working on our Dogs, some more so than others.
As those before me have said it is all in the maintance. There are several sections on that exact subject on the forum.
I usually just grab a beer, turn on the tunes and spend the time it takes to finish that beer to check oils, belt tensions, nuts and bolts, tyre pressures, engine mounts, exhaust system.

Basic shit for any motorcycle rider really.

As for doing big miles..........in a heart beat!!! Most comfy bike i have ever owned.

Welcome Joe. I'm down in Jeff City, MO I work in Columbia so I'm up your way every day. I just bought my dog middle of the summer but so far rode it with a bunch of guys about 800 miles in one weekend (would have went farther but had to hold back for all the HDs on the trip :D)and put 4k miles total in what was left of the summer. Bike has 27k on it total right now and I'd ride it anywhere.

The battery connections vibrate loose on me so I routinely just hit them with a wrench, but I keep reading this forum and am sure I can keep it on the road. At heart it's an S&S powerplant and baker transmission so except for a few minor gremlins what's not to like?
