Loctite advise needed

I have removed my inner primary to replace 'o' rings due to oil leak. The manual calls for loctite 2440 on Primary to Engine screws, 222 plus primer'N' on inner primary screws, and 2760 on main shaft and trans shaft nuts.You can spend a small fortune here.

What have you used?

Should always have loctite (or Permatex) in the tool kit. I use the primerless blue and red and have started using the blue strip tape for larger bolts.

It's like the dentist says, "you only need to brush the teeth you want to keep."

You only need to use Loctite on the fastners you want to stay on the bike. :up:

Also make sure all blind holes are clean and dry as well as the bolts.
Take time to do it right and keep from having to do it twice:up:

That was my point I have red and blue, but by the book there are intermediate Loctite's called out.

i just use red on the larger bolts and blue on the smaller bolts and i have not had any problems

I like that blue Loctite strip tape and use it everywhere that Red is not required.

I like to wire brush the bolt threads and run a tap in all holes especially blind holes and also clean the threads with some lacquer thinner, Q-tips work well for this. Let it all dry before applying the Loctite.

Ken - I've just run those two types on everything and never had a problem. Some of the manuals for systems may show multiple numbers for loctite as the components may have been developed/upgraded over several years and loctite keeps advancing.

I've found just the primerless red and blue work just fine for everything on a bike.

Now if we were talking aircraft or rockets, there is purple, and green loctite too :lol::lol:

I've worked on everything from military aircraft to cat heavy equipment. All you need is blue, red , and green. Either loctite or permatex they are the same. Just think of of this way. Blue for the fasteners you take on and off regularly. Red for every now then fasteners. Green for I never want to take that bitch off again.
