Hey gang,

Well since I bought my 07 K9, with only 1590 miles on it, So far it's been in the shop.

1. Speedo Tech dosen't work - replaced - warrenty issue
2. Ignition module went bad - replaced - warrenty issue
3. Front brake caliper leaking brake fluid - replaced - warrenty issue
4. Rear right and left light boards went bad - replaced - warrenty issue
5. Cracked rear brake lense - replaced - warrenty issue

I don't know, for a brand new bike to have all these issues???....what the hell??...Only rode the bike for 80-100 miles tops...unless the previous owner beat the crap out of this bike...along with the bottom of the frame getting all scratched also, I guess this guy rode over every speed bump in town....got touch up paint from BD to fix that...but that costs...lol...

Oh well...glad it's all under warrenty and it's getting done now instead of during riding season...
Doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies about the reliablity of this bike...
Kind of worried here.... :bang: :(

what's ya'll think???

That is NOT good, hope I have better luck. I had my speedo go, its depends on what day on whether or not it will work, or by the ride. I talked to the BDM main office in KS, the lady told me she wasn't aware of them "just going bad, unless the battery is low" and that is was out of warranty. But did not specify by how far..... good luck to you!

Hey Red, Sorry to hear that about that Yellow Dog. I really thought you bought it right, but maybe that's why. It had things wrong with it.

Just hope for your sake it is not a LEMON (It is YELLOW) you know!! (yah I know - Bad Joke).

Hang in there and don't get discouraged. You'll get her in good shape.

i would not jump to conclusions just yet red. my bet is the prior owner let the bike sit a lot and some of the things just happen. i am on my second speedo and it fogged up coming home from the dealership when it was replaced (the original didn't fog, it just stopped working).
how much more warranty do you have left?
you are going to be all right---i remember that cold day last fall when you took sapphire out for a ride and you retured with a smile on your face that could not have been wiped off with a meat ax, chuck

Red Bull, don't get to discouraged. You've been on here enough to know that some has lots of troubles and more have few or none.
Hard to tell what the prior owner did to yours so I would recommend you go over it like a lot of us here and ensure ever connection is filled with die-electric grease. All wires are zip tied to the frame to prevent chaffing. Seal up all the wiring connections the best you can. Follow Gas Mans How To on this.
As for the "Tach Board" I suspect that is what you meant by speedo teck, it could have been a bad connection or just a bad board. Not a lot of problems with this so would imagine it was a bad connection. Ensure you have the new wider speedo mount. This reduces the vibration.
Don't know abut the ignition module, I'm on my original one and it's has quite a few miles on it so hard to tell what the prior owner was doing with your bike. I would have your dealership print you out a download of the ignition though just to see what the prior owner did with it. I've posted what they look like on here.
As for the front brake caliper leaking, I wouldn't stress too much on it. PM calipers are the best on the market but could have been caused my a lift. When you lift the bikes and the forks stretch out it makes that line very taught so it could have been pulled on and that caused the leak.

Hang in there once you get the gremlins out of it it will provide you a lot of fun filled miles as I can prove!!!

Red, my front caliper leaked the day I bought it used too. No worries, dealer replaced and no issue since (~10k miles). My speedo fogs, always has - look at the road instead..:D
Torque the hell out of that clutch nut with red loktite and lets ride....

2007's should shape up to be a good solid ride, Red - most of the problems came in 2005 and early 06's.

With 10k on mine, it has been pretty trouble free - worst was a blown voltage regulator, which luckily happened right at the dealer. Other than that, it's just been good riding.

Red,
Hang in there. Look at it this way. You get to,tinker with it. I got all the bugs worked out of mine so far and this board really helps with learning.
Between all the guys and gals here that really know their dog and how to work on em people like me can get the confidence to fix some of this stuff ourselves and get the insight from these people here that are willing to help when we have a question.
Every bit of the problems you mentioned can be fixed by yourself very easily. Treat it like a hobby and take your time and make sur all your fixes are time well spent.
As far as those scratches under the frame...Well I can tell you that my first chopper that i rode was a flame painted 57 panhead in a Santee frame with a 20 over front end. To turn around on a single lane country road i would stop put the kick stand down and spin it around on the kick stand, put the kick stand up and take off. These front ends on these dogs are long and it is very easy for an inexperienced rider to hammer it too hard through a curve and end up in the ditch. Those scratches you see under frame are most likely caused form being in the ditch...or could be. So if i were you i'd be looking for other tell tale signs like slightly bent forward controls, handle bars, Scuff marks on inner primary...etc. etc. Or the previous owner may have simply drove it out trough bunch os weeds.
Something to think about.

Red,
Hey man those are all minor things that are either already taken care of or in the process of being done. And you dont have to pay a dime. Most of us have experienced at least 1 or 2 if not all those problems. As for the scratches on the bottom, mine has the same thing, depending on your size, take a speed bump and its hitting. To get into my driveway I have to stand up to get on from the street and I am 6'2 250. You are bigger than that, so you just have to be careful, Md Loves speedbumps. Anyway dont worry I was at the shop the other day and big bird looks good and its keeping my bike company.. Talk to you soon. P:cheers:

I have the air ride setup on mine, The bottom of my frame is all scratched up and I've never been off rode. I have bottomed out on speed bumps going slow that didn't appear to be very high - they were high enough. Only takes one of them to scratch the bottom of your frame. I also hit the frame damn near every time I turn into my concrete driveway which doesn't have a very steep incline. I've bottomed out in numerous gas stations around FL last fall as well. My bike does ride lower than stock though. I'm not necessarily happy about the bottom of my frame being scratched to shit; but I also don't find myself laying down on the ground looking up at mine or others. Ride that sucker like ya stole it, that just adds character...
Course I suppose ya could mount it up on a trophy lift too, in which case - ignore everything I just said....:D

Red, that scraping on the bottom of the frame rails could have come from loading it on a trailer. I've scraped mine up pretty good from trailers that don't have a long ramp.

Ray, with your mileage, when have you had time to get it ON a trailer? I kinda figured your bike was allergic to trailers....LOL!

Ha ha, no it's been trailered quite a few times. Once when my starter broke in half. Once when the EHC burned the bike all up just after I bought it and once when I couldn't get it started so trailered it to the dealer and they found/determnined that it was out of gas! :zwhistle:

I wish I had more money.
That is good stuff Ray. I had just picked my bike up after getting the engine work and tune done. On the ride home the bike quit. Beinga little upset call the guy and tell him how it quit. He shows up a little while later we check the everything inclueding fuel. No worky. We put a little in anyway, fired. I didn't get it. Now I make sure that there is fuel in it. The pisser of the deal was they had it on the dyno for two or three hours and forgot to put more fuel in it.
