I like to call them "skid lids"! Thanks for the compliments guys!
I guess I need to address Roaddawgs questions now:
I use regular base coat reducer with my one-shot. You can use clear catalyst if you want. And it does help. I just got in the practice of always allowing stripes to dry a full day before I clear. I always use a light tack coat as my first coat of clear, with at least 10-15 minutes flash between coats (depending on temp.) Alot of guys like to use the striping urethanes now. They dry in minutes and can be cleared without headaches. I just found them to be very thin, and as I am NOT a natural pinstriper, I need to be comfortable with what I'm using.
When doing von-dutch style pinstriping, I often just dive in with no guide lines. But this helmet job was done over scuffed bases and kandy - not sanded clear. So no mistakes and do-overs! When I do lay out a design, I will use a stabilo pencil. After my stripes have dried completely, I use a little soft scrub dish soap and water to clean off any left over stabilo marks. Yes, I paint over the lines.
Keep practicing Bruce, looks like the talent IS coming!
