Little Boo's helmet

Ed, great job as always. Definitely inspires me to go out into the garage now. But, before I do, a couple of questions. Did you thin the one shot with the reducer or catalyst used for you clear coat (I thought one shot enamel had to cure for an extended amount of time before clearing)? When you sketch out your pinstripes, do you use a stabilo pencil or is it saral? Then are you painting over those lines or do you wipe them off first? Thanks for the step by steps, it's a great way of understanding the process. Just wish the talent came with it.

Outstanding work. I agree with Eric. I wouldn't want even a bug to hit it. I think I would have to put it in a display case and call it good.

I like to call them "skid lids"! Thanks for the compliments guys!
I guess I need to address Roaddawgs questions now:
I use regular base coat reducer with my one-shot. You can use clear catalyst if you want. And it does help. I just got in the practice of always allowing stripes to dry a full day before I clear. I always use a light tack coat as my first coat of clear, with at least 10-15 minutes flash between coats (depending on temp.) Alot of guys like to use the striping urethanes now. They dry in minutes and can be cleared without headaches. I just found them to be very thin, and as I am NOT a natural pinstriper, I need to be comfortable with what I'm using.
When doing von-dutch style pinstriping, I often just dive in with no guide lines. But this helmet job was done over scuffed bases and kandy - not sanded clear. So no mistakes and do-overs! When I do lay out a design, I will use a stabilo pencil. After my stripes have dried completely, I use a little soft scrub dish soap and water to clean off any left over stabilo marks. Yes, I paint over the lines.
Keep practicing Bruce, looks like the talent IS coming!
