I just fill to the full mark after installing lucas.. but I guess you could drain out the amount you wanta install then add it .. dont over fillHow much? Makes you wonder how all that gunk got in there and what to do about it not happening again!FWIW I popped out the rear lifters on mine and gave them a good cleaning, they had a lot of gunk in them causing them to stick. Problem solved, for now.
I'm all over the tappet screen now also![]()
Dont buy a used bike for starters. I find that not many people maintain theirMakes you wonder how all that gunk got in there and what to do about it not happening again!![]()
dont blame S&S, they didn't build your motor, for that matter, dont blame anyone, its just the nature of these vibrating v-twins.After 50+ years, S&S should have there shit together and not have these problems.
Nine, you know that for the 05 though about the 07 years S&S just provided the lower ends and BDM built them up to there specs trying to meet EPA demands I imagine. Just saying.I'm just saying S&S should have there engine's set up better. If I build a motor run it for a while and it's making noise (and it doesn't have soild lifters) I would make some kind of change, and that's just me building one engine, not going into production.
Just Sunday I rode with a friend that built a 80" evo-engine stock bore, big cam major head work (14/1 compression) can only run 114 race fuel, and besides exhaust being loud as hell, motor it's self was quiet.
Don't get me wrong, I love my motor, I have it pretty quiet now, I'll keep tuning it till it's perfect (I'm anal about these things) Over the winter I'll probably do a tear down check tolarances and see what I come up with. I just don't think these motors should come out of the box making noise. Just sayin.
Glad it worked out nine, with a simple adjustment :up:Didn't do a winter teardown, no need. Motor sounds good now, small amount of piston slap sometimes....really happy with the motor overall, definitly quieter with 20,000 miles then with 1000.
To tell you the truth......don't remember where the hell I'm at on the turns, think it's three.you still liking the three turns....
