i need to rechrome both lifter blocks, can i adjust the pushrods short enough to pull the blocks out or i have to remove the rocker boxes and pushrods? thanks dino
Why would you remove the cam cover, etc. to get the lifters out of the lifter blocks ???You will have to remove the pushrods as you won't be able to get enough clearance to pull the tappet blocks. You are also going to have to remove the camshaft cover and camshaft to get the lifters out.
BTW Tappet Blocks are polished aluminum not chrome though. Unless someone chromed yours.
I'm thinking the push rods are the stock ones and therefore won't give you enough room to pull them out? I suppose you could cut them and install new pushrods. IMO the cam is easier to remove than the rocker boxes. Why would you remove the cam cover, etc. to get the lifters out of the lifter blocks ???

:iagree: with what John states, you can do it that way. While you have it open put some quickie push rods in so you wont have to pull the rocker covers in the future...If it's an S&S engine you have adjustable p/rods in it. AND,It is easy to pull the top rocker cover, and rocker sadde to remove the push rods. Then you can remove the lifter blocks. You're stressing over a basic simple job...

Yep, i found a small 12pt socket that did the trickGoing to take a guess. If it's '90's kind of hd inverted torx looking head I think the size is a 12 point 7/16th box end wrench. Concur with John and Brew. Rocker box gasket is cheaper than a set of snipped off pushrods. Cam drop is more a PITA.
Its a 1/4" 12 pointThanks guys, but I have a few months before I get into this and was looking for the actual size for the inverted torx socket.
I just bought a cheap set off amazon for like $18.
