License Plate LED Light

A little guidance here. Two of the four LED's are not illuminated. The two that are out are right next to each other. I know that the voltage needs to flow through each LED circut in order to complete the whole circut. Any suggestions as to why two of them are not lit? I am leaning on a bad LED board, I could be wrong. Everything else is working fine.

Yep bad board, a new board with harness sets you back around $30. Call Nelson.

Would you happen to know if the new LED board comes with a new lead on it or does one need to solder the new board to the old lead?

Would this question be better suited for Nelson Mandela?

It comes with new lead. Unplug the old one and install the new one and plug it in.
I just got mine from Nelson yesterday. Two of mine are flickering!

But the larger question is... and I know Al just replaced one... cause of the tube the lead goes thru.. does it come with the BDM connector off the lead (it needs to be off to slide thru said tube on swingarm). If not... good luck getting the end off without breaking it.

Yeah, they come ready to install, the connector is not attached, but it comes with the assembly 10 minute job.

As Al says will be a 10 min job. If you don't have the tool to remove the little wires try using a micro flat blade or a pin.

They start to flicker rather brightly then burn out - 2 work, 2 stop working. Looking at the bad one moisture seems to have caused it to short - that said be sure to water proof your lights, controls and speedo using conformal coating, heat shrink tubing and dielectric grease.

I am not certain how my LED light failed. Could have been water, could have been vibration. I don't know how much of each this LED board can take. There was no evidence of trapped moisture inside the license plate housing.

My plate is flipped and the end/bottom two lights went bad. Easy fix, ran a pc of fishing line down the tube to help pull the wire on the top while I pushed on the bottom. If your plate is flipped remember to seal the small hole at the top to prevent moisture from getting in.

On my 06 K9 you remove the seat and the connector is right there towards the rear fender. Unclip the conector and remove the j pins and slide it out.

This is my first BDM so please excuse my ignorance. How do I get to the connector that travels up the tubing and swingarm? Can I snap the fiberglass side off to get to it? I have everything apart on the plate holder but need to follow it up and disconnect.

My connector (07 K-9) was not just laying out in the open when I took my seat off. It was hidden behind the right side panel. Here is what I did: I followed the wire to the right side of the bike behind the side panel next to the battery. Now I had to try and get the panel off. After a few helpful replies and further exploring, I found that there are two bolts on top(right one on top behind the seat slot and the other towards the rear on the right) to be removed in order to get the side panel off. Look under the front of both panels and you will see two rubber grommets. Firmly grasp the right panel after your two bolts are out and push down in the front. It should pop out. Now with some wiggling back and forth, your panel will come out. The connector is white and was right in front of me. It just snaps apart. Cut off that white connector from the end you are replacing and tie some fishline SECURELY to the red and black wire and pull through all of the holes to your license plate area. Then tie your new wires to the fishline and pull back up to your male half of your connector and snap together. I left the white connector more out in the open near the rear of the battery so if I have to replace it again I will not have to remove the side panel.
