Let the Fun Begin!....Ported heads and cam install

I actually used 22 caliber rifle or pistol barrel brass cleaning brushes. Lots of elbow grease and time. I got discouraged lots of days and walked away and worked on something else. Good luck with your project. Looking good so far!
Why didn't I think of that? :bang:
Thanks for the tip! :2thumbs:

Update:

Got my heads today from John. They look great.

First thing first. Here is a comparison of a cleaned up and polished head to a dirty one. (I did not put the same effort in cleaning these as I did the jugs)

Here is what Johns work looks like.

Don't mind the burnt oil there, that is prior to getting this work done. TP covers would not seal at all on the rear jug. S&S coves being installed now. Not to mention the fact that they were tearing up my guides. Garbage for sure.

And I figured I would show a shot of the 600 cam installed.

I am hoping to finish up this weekend. I am in no rush at this point, so I am taking my time. Big thanks to John for answering all my phone calls the last couple of days. :D

That is going to be a completely different beast when you straddle it next! Congrats on the build and let us know how ridiculous it is!

Looks very nice with the work done so far.

How did the bike sound like before and what difference do you expect it to sound like now being all the EPA garbage was taken off, ie: bigger valves, intake restrictor removed and bigger cam with head work.

Reason I ask is I have an 05 Chopper and am very unhappy with how it sounds with all the EPA garbage added to the 05's. :bang:

I have the Big Radius installed but the motor is chocked up to say the least. Thanks keep posting updates also :2thumbs:

The bike did not sound bad but I did have a lot of valvetrain noise that was not the "normal" noisy engine from S&S. My guides had already been replaced by the previous owner so I know they were getting beat up. I had a baseline dyno done before I started this, 89rwhp and 101rwtq. I hope to be around 130rwhp/rwtq+ range now.

So I have the bike all back together and running:up: I am running it easy for the first 50 miles then I will get on it. :whoop:

What I can say is it does not take the same amount of throttle to get going. I can feel the power difference for sure. Its like the bike just works a lot less to move along than it did before.

The only problem I have now is my Tach does not work over 3k rpms. Not sure exactly what caused this but I am going to take a look at the connections. I know the lights work cause at low rpms they all flash. But doing a search here people have had similar problems and the board ended up being bad.

I will post some finished product pics later! The S&S covers look so much better than the TP's!

No pics of final product, buuuut I did take the bike to the dyno today.

My stock dyno from 2 years ago was 88rwhp and 102 rwtq

Today's dyno with mods was 108rwhp and 122rwtq.

This was done on the same dyno which is a Daytona. The AFR is just about perfect across the board. I am running a 29.5 int / 76 main. The ThunderHeart ignition is set to 32 degrees timing. It may not be over 130rwhp like some have posted but to gain 20 all around is great. I can tell a big difference in power for sure. BTW I still get 40 mpg! :)

Keep in mind I have never heard of a Daytona dyno...I am not completely sure of the conversion to anything else. This bike to me runs a lot better than what the dyno is telling me. I am going to find a dynojet eventually to give that a try. The guy who ran my bike does not know anything about these motors so could not offer/tell me much other than numbers.

What is odd is the fact that my peak power (5200rpms) after mods is at a lower RPM (5400) than my previous run. That's questionable because a 600 cam should take me to 6000 rpms.

Long story short don't look to much into the low output with heads, trust me when I say the bike moves!

Dyno Sheets...before and after (this was on a Daytona dyno, have no idea how it compares to a Dynojet)
