Leftover Gas

Not sure if this is the right forum for my question but since involves fuel I'll put it here. Not long ago someone commented on leftover gas in one hose type dispensers. Does anyone have any facts on how much gas actually remains in the hose from 87 to 92 octane and do you think this is a big enough problem to avoid the single hose systems?

Its been discussed before I think but:

If you say 3/4" I.D hose x 12' in length = X volume. That would give you a close answer of how much is in the sytem based on a 12' hose. The answer X in volumn then didvided into total gallons pumped would give you a close percentage of how many parts of premium (92) vs reg (87) you have.

3 gal 92 and 1 gal of 87 would equal 4 gal of 90.75

But I don't really know a damn thing about octane!

That hurt mine brain:bang:

Which tells me to just wait till I need more than just a gallon or so.

I use Exxon here most of the guys/ girls with hot cars or bikes use it and it seems that the local station moves it out fairlly regularly. I have run it from some no name brand stations and it just doesn't seem seem the same same:confused:

The difference between the branded gas and the generic gas, is not the gas itself its the additives and how much additives they pu tin. The branded gas has more and "better" addiditives.

Way back when this started (my fault) I took several cans to a local station and while filling the cans I saw the color change (regular to high test) at about 1/2 - 3/4 of a gallon. I'm sure this can and will vary due to hose and pipe length.

So if you are just topping off your tank your not getting much High Test unless you are lucky enough to fill up after someone just bought HT.

When I pull into my local station the guy who works there will check and let me know if any of the pumps have HT in the lines. I keep a few cans of HT at the house so I can feed the dog well.
