I've got a questions for the Bigdog brain trust. 2016 Canine. 124 SS JIMS 6 speed.
My left rear brake light stopped working. The right side works. The running lights work on both sides. The blinkers work everywhere except the left rear. I purchased two(2) new led rear (red) tail lights. Changed out the left rear. Brake and blinker still doesn't work but the running lights do. Any suggestions where to look next? I've got no 2016 manual. I'd rather fix it myself if possible.

Take the taillight back out and check the end of the plug to make sure the pins connections are good and while you there check with a test light to see if you got power when you turn the turn signal on or pressing the brake pedal... you can also check buy pulling in the front brake lever...once you check that out take the seat off and look for the wires running to the rear lights...they should be a connector there on the left side somewhere between the battery and the rear fender, that could be where the issue might be...you also need to look up under the rear fender and see if the wires have been rubbed by the rear tire.

Ok I purchased some mini probe attachments for my Fluke. Removed the rear tail light lamps. Checked for 12 volts on the side that was working. Got familiar with the way it was wired on the good side. Sure enough the purple wire on the bad side was the brake light wire and it had no voltage. Took a close look and on the 2016 model they ran the wire inside the strut. Nothing inside the fender to rub. Unplugged the harness under the seat and decided to ring out the purple wire before going further. It rung out good. Good deal, then looked inside the pin connector at the EHC. Low and behold one of the pins was bent in an s-curve and off to the side. Another was bent over some. I looked at the alignment and sure enough that pin lined up with the purple. I took my time and straightened the bent pins up and the S-curve I pinched with a pair of needle nose and straightened it out. Checked the purple wire for power coming out of the EHC and I had power. This was a little sketchy. I didn't want to ruin the pin connector, possibly resulting in a new EHC. Once I got the distances apart and the alignment straightened out I decided to land the connector. Pushed it together. Turned the key on, then the blinker and everything worked. No smoke from the EHC.Put my old tail light lamp back in it and two new lenses on. Feels good.
