Leaking intake manifold

Hi guys. I ask your advice.
117 " engine, сarburetor s&s super E. I checked the spark plugs and saw that they had different deposits.
The front spark plug is very black. The rear spark plug is light.
I began to look for a leak. Used WD 40. This did not help. Next I used a brake cleaner. That helped. On the front cylinder leak. Between the intake manifold and the head.
Question. Why is the front spark plug black? If the leakage gets excess air. So the mixture becomes poorer. But why a spark plug like with a very rich mixture? Maybe somebody had to deal with this? And I must pay attention to something else? Maybe some kind of pitfalls? Thank you very much for your attention.

Not sure but the front cylinder runs cooler than the rear, so usually it's a little richer looking than the rear cylinder, but not a lot so not sure what's up on yours, I would install new plugs, fix the leak and run it for a while then check it again to see how it looks.

check the spray pattern in the carb. it should be a really fine "fan" giving good coverage all across the throat of the carb. it could be a little clogged up and directing more fuel toward the front cylinder.

Do you have TP rocker boxes? If you are not sure send a pic. Is the black at all gunky or just powdery?

Yes, TP rocker boxes. Restrictor replaced by spacers without the limiter. The spark plug has velvety carbon deposits. But not oily. It seems like it does not burn the whole mixture. Or, because of the cold air intake, the spark plug can not heat up and become covered with carbon. Spacers on one side have rubber cover. This coating lost its properties. Rubber is not elastic. Who knows how thick should be rubber? I can paste new rubber, but I do not know the thickness.

Where did u get the spacers to replace the factory reatrictors my restrictors have been taken out from previous owner and spacing is off causing intake leak

I would just get a new manifold that fits. I'm guessing you still have the E carb if you are using the original manifold that came on the 05's. The EPA 117's use a 410 manifold, which is the same for a standard 80" evo, so they are readily available just about anywhere. The S&S part number for the manifold you need is 160-1628. You will also need the S&S head seals. You can get them from bigdogpartskingpin.com.
