Layoff

In light of the layoffs and potential temporary closing of production, you would think dealers would be giving customers some good bargains for the models on their floors. I'm debating whether to trade my Mastiff in on a K-9 and I can't get my dealer to budge $500. Another out of state dealer won't even return emails. Being the end of the year and then the possiblity of BDM shutting down I would think dealers would want to get bikes off their floors. Here I am wanting to deal and no one wants to move their bikes. I don't get it.

I saw the same from the two dealers near me They both have plenty of bikes (one actually seems to be selling a lot of them) and they will only give advertised rebates.

Try Liberty Big Dog in Akron Ohio 330-535-9900
I just took a peek at their website and they only have one K-9 and it has an American flag paint job. Nothing wrong with that but it's not what I'm looking for. A dealer in SC has a ton of bikes on their website but the guy won't ever get back to me. I'm a potential buyer and he can't return a call or email. Dealer in Erie who I bought my Mastiff from wants $34000 for a chromed K-9. That's just nuts.

This is not good news but it goes along with everything I see.
There is nothing to bring this economy out of this anytime soon..
Completely untrue... Slash tax rates across the board and see how fast this economy turns around.

Unfortunately our 'dear leader' and the current holders of congress do not believe in that philosophy.... so companies suffer and private citizens suffer....

hope and change....

We are getting like the stock market back when everyone gets scared and sells ruining good companys
When I bought mine they were having lay offs at BDM
I bought it anyway. I sold my Harley to get a better bike .BD is a great bike and the ecomony is not going to take that away from it.
Hell harley stock is going up for the last few months
Nobody is worried who buys a Harley
Lets think positive and maybe more guys looking to find a better grade of bike will look at this web page and at BDM and buy one
That gets BDM workers back were they need to be making Bigdogs
But not if everyone is spooking them
My 2 cents

:iagree: True, very true.

:iagree: Very true as well, this great country of ours is being OBOMAtized, I hope things get better soon, most likely will not as long as that guy is in office.

Mastiffo9,
I'm a potential buyer and he can't return a call or email
This was brought up a couple of years ago and a dlr or two responded that a serious buyer will call during business hours.

It was their experience that there were too many looky loos and the serious buyer does not email for prices or call backs.

I will look some more for that topic this evening.

KnotSo,
I can understand that. But I can't be on the phone during work hours discussing a bike deal. My boss is in the office next door and it wouldn't go over well. Sorry if this got off topic. I'll drop it.

If BDM goes under values will plummet but it's not the end of the world. Parts will always be available from somewhere, and worst case you spend some time, money, and sweat equity to change out the bars and you've got an American custom that you can get parts for anywhere. I don't think the problem is so much what BD is doing. I think a lot of Harley guys bought custom bikes, whether it was a Bourget, BD, or Ironhorse, and they got disenchanted with the cost of repairs and the time needed to keep them running. Now it's come full circle and with the economy being in the shitter the timing couldn't be any worse. In the end the chopper craze may never get back to what it was, but we will see some form of production customs, be it bobbers or whatever. BD is down, but so is Harley and everyone else.

And HD just doesn't provide what some of us need. I gave them 25 yrs to figure it out though before I changed up to BDM.

My two BD's have provided me with all the value I spent on them. :D With the exception of the electrical parts and maybe the controls the remaining is all generic so parts will always be available to use custom guys.

Ray I agree. I didn't give Harley 25 years because I'm only 35 :D but IMHO you get one spend a bunch of money to make it your own and you have as much in it as you would a BD and there are still thousands just like it. I love my BD and really hope BDM doesn't go under but if they do it really doesn't concern me to have one. I have yet to use my warranty and once it is gone my bike would never see a dealer again. My dad runs a street rod shop and I feel that I have a solid chassis, motor and trans so from there I can do whatever I like. The only reason I bought a BD instead of building a bike is I couldn't build it as cheap with the quality components as I bought mine.

Having said all that, good luck BDM I hope you keep going. I don't want to see another single American company go under. :flag:
