big dog Staff cut in half. I think down to 30 emplyees. :(
Wow really? Last I heard a few weeks ago they had 70+. Now down to 30? Thats crazy, to think a couple years ago they had over 30 just in the paint dept. 45 I believe. I hope things get better for them real soon.
Lets keep this American company here in the USA:flag:

I just talked to the service dept. there and the mechanic said they had only 30 people there they let the service writer go feel bad to all who lost their jobs :(

:zz2cents:Well it sucks to see people lose there jobs when they put some much time into them, and they will have to make there bikes more affordable to hang-on or a least have a line that some of us poor folk can afford.

Worst case - Big Dog shuts down. Will this give Baker, S&S and all of the people that made special parts for BD the ability to sell to us directly?

Say It Ain't So

Just like one of the bloggers on Cyril Huze's site stated "the next cut comes at the wrist" may well be true and I hope it's not. One thing for sure is in my opinion they are a great company and if they die they should be remembered as an American motorcycle company that did more for their customers than most.

Lets hope Sheldon can produce something that will sell well in this economy after the first of the year. Don't want to lose BD. We have lost enough dealers as it is.

Technically I'll bet BDM could furlow for an entire year...skip new bike production and run nothing but a skeleton crew to answer phones and ship parts... and still emerge unscathed when the economy rebounds. Sheldon is a smart businessman, and from what I understand the building is paid for. There is no need talking about BDM going under...if it were going to happen I think it would have already.

Just talked to a shop manager here in Phoenix that sells another brand of custom bikes. He mentioned that the finance company that sets up the shops is pulling the financing to most of the shops that don't start with the name "Harley". Most shops can't afford to have 8 or 10 bikes on the floor that are not financed. That's quite a bit of cash. He also mentioned that bike financing in general is gettin REAL tight. Told a story about a guy that came in with a 740 credit score and couldn't get financed. Another guy got financing, with a credit score in the 600's, but the interest rate is 17 % !!! Without financing, bike companies will not survive!!!!!!!

Sheldon comes from a long history of family business success. I'm sure he is, and will, be doing all he can to keep this company running. I'm certain, he knows that the success of Big Dog is the quality product and is well aware that this downturn is not by any fault of the product but rather the US economy. Hopefully, he can take this down time to research and develop so that when it turns upward again, BD will be even better than it already is!! Positive thoughts bring positive return! Guess we could do our part by going and trading in our old BD's for new ones!
