My guess is they are toys and these guys have another bike to ride. They probably got tired of meeting new friends on the side of the road.

Could be the season is ending for many up north, it also could be that the economy has improved to the point that more are buying these types of motorcycles and the pricing has stabilized and is no longer dropping. Could be that those that only ride 500 miles a year are looking to buy the next thing they can brag about owning but never actually using. Could be more are posting their sale on this site and we then notice this, but that sales are actually declining on ebay and cl. Many of us can remember when fleabay would have 40 big dogs listed at the same time

Actually I don't think its good - its pretty much sucked for a LONG time. I just assumed when it took a dump years ago that peeps sold the dogs years ago. And the ones that still own them are able to afford keeping them because we are treading water. It hasn't taken "another" dump yet.

You THINK the Economy is good?????????????
I own a software company now for the last 30 years. I have an employment testing system where companies worldwide use it to hire new employees.

In 2005 we were running 900 -1200 reports a day. Today we run 100 reports a day if we are lucky. I went from 12 employees to 2. No one is hiring. No one has cash to buy these bikes except the bankers, stock brokers etc. It's sad but that is where we are and the guys who have the $$ are having custom bikes built for $25k that a few years ago would have cost them $60k. A guy on another chopper site just sold an Eddie Trotta super custom show bike that he paid $68k for 4 years ago for $15k and it had only 1,500 miles on it.

I bought my 2004 chopper with 4k miles on it on Ebay. He started out at $18k. Then went to $16k. then went to $14k. Then went to $12k and I bought it for $10.5k

The parts were worth more than that.

Could be the about 90% of BDM owners don't know how to wrench and are always to pay just to have a battery changed. As many questions as are asked here it appears very few ever try to figure things out on there own.

I like to help everyone, but sometimes a little initiative can go a long way, like doing a search to find out what other have done to resolve a similar issue.

Or maybe they sell because they need the money, new wife or new house or new baby or new girlfriend, all that cost money and the economy sucks which doesn't help at all.

Bought mine from my best bud and that's exactly how he was. He bought it brand new, put a $5K paint job on it, and sold it to me for about 25 cents on the dollar. I have spent 100's of hours working on it, which I like almost as much as riding it.

I'm in IT as is my wife and the economic downturn slaughtered us. I make about a third of what I used to make and we are just now recovering. It will take a few more years to dig out completely and selling the dog is always talked about around the house. There may come a day when I just let it go to knock out some final debt payment. We'll see. Fingers crossed for winning the lottery...but I guess I'd have to play for it to actually happen... :D

Carlos,
I like your positive attitude on moving forward with things new, but maybe they have to sell to payoff an old wife or girlfriend also.

Always more bikes for sale toward the end of the season, guys who realize they didn't ride much through the season. I have definatelly seen some of the lowest prices on Big Dogs ever, don't know if its because parts are harder to find or the guys who rarely ride are just tired of them collecting dust. In any case it worked out for me as I always dreamed of owning one but never thought I would afford one, till I found mine for a song. Guy just bought a big boat and didn't ride the dog anymore, right time, right place!! But I'm a happy man!!!!!

Funny how people sell bikes at the end of the season...I'd sell mine beginning of the season for more $....I never thought I could afford one either and was looking for years. Bought mine in March.....got a great deal on it...my daughter bought a bike as well in mid-winter, got a great deal.....as other's have stated, I think it's people who don't ride a lot, don't work on them, let them sit and then there's more work on them cuz they don't ride em and they 'dry' up.....sad, or their wives are like, you don't ride it - get rid of it....I want a new blah blah blah........I LOVE THESE BIKES!

And with this forum, have met some cool people and always find a solution to my issues.... :2thumbs::2thumbs:

I've always bought snowmobiles in the summer, but motorcycles, convertibles and boats in the winter :D

:iagree:

I think you nailed it ...don't know about the 90 %. but probably close
But I bought mine from a guy who put 400 miles in seven years on it .
He spent a lot on batteries, starters, etc.

I Have gone through the bike , and have ridden it over 1500 miles troublefree since may.
(would have been more , but I own several bikes).

2X. When I bought my bike a 2004 (10 years old) it had 2 owners and 4k on it. That means an average of 33 miles a MONTH. Heck, I put that on just testing a new part out. I think a lot of these guys bought one to look "cool" and got tired of it and went back to riding their Road Kings or rice rockets or you have the wanna be biker lawyer/Dr types who find out they aren't bikers. I'm getting ready to do a 200 + mile ride today "probably in the rain)

I just got a great deal on my 2005. Guy told me it had 7000 miles, I get down there and it's got 4300. I just rode 400 miles today. I'm loving it. There's always great deals to be had on toys when the layup period is coming. People just get tired of paying insurance, and tired of starring at it collecting dust in the garage. Same thing happens with cars. People come in the spring to buy sports cars and convertible, then rush in October to buy a 4wd. I just lol. I get paid to sell cars not council people on how to spend money.

There's another ride next Sunday, if it's decent out I'm going to go on it too. The local hog chapter is very active, they always put together nice rides.
Agree, and I hope to join you very soon!! I could possibly make Sunday, I'll let you know.
