Knocking noise from rocker bearings

Energy One
Hey guys, I'm a HD rider for most all of my life. And I bought brand new 2006 BD ridgeback. I put over 2K miles on it now. As we all know S&S motor it kind noiser then HD. I had this knocking noise few months ago. Seem like it came from rocker bearings. Is it normal for S&S Engine? Did it happen to your bikes too? But for sure it's noiser then my Fatboy.
Thanks, Kevin

Kevin,
Do you have the TP or S&S rocker boxes? TP is 4 bolts, S&S has 6 on top. A lot of issues with the TP's. :spank:

Kevin do you have the HL2T spacers in your lifters? I have an 06 K9 which did not come with the HL2T spacers I installed them later myself. If you have the HL2T spacers make sure the pushrod adjustment is being done correctly per the S&S instructions for those spacers. If it is not done per their instructions your TPs will definitley be noisy. I just recently went back through and adjusted my push rods per the S&S instructions, with an extra half turn off, and have gotten my valves running very quiet.

Mine also make a loud knocking noise that comes and goes. I did re-adjust and went 4 turns. Should I go 4 1/2 turns?

Hmm...I found both the S&S 117" engines I've had to have quite a bit less top-end noise than the H-D CVO 103" & 95" bikes we had previously.

Typically not usually less turns quiets things down. I have mine at 3 1/2. Some have theres at 3 turns. I believe their was a note in the 05 BD manual to go to 3 turns if excessive noise was persent. Don't know about other years.

My has S&S 117" engines and S&S rocker box with out HL2T spacers. It had adjusted one time at local BD services, but do not know 4 turns or 3? The noise was disappeared after they adjusted, and now came back. Should I take it back or some thimg I can do it my self. Thanks

How many miles since your last adjustment? If you do not have the HL2T spacers then disregard my last post as it only applies to the HL2T loaded lifters.

Thought this might be worth mentioning. On my 06 Mastiff I have S&S rocker boxes that were making more noise than I thought they should, I re-adjusted the push rods to 4 turns after 0 lash, no good. Went back today re-adjusted to 3 turns after 0 lash, that's the ticket, much quieter.
