Knocking and Pinging

Order the K&N filters online, I think they are 170C, I usually order about 6 at a time.
If the filter don't make a diggerence, then I would adjust your push rods, Bowhunter has a very good "how to" in his cam install. put the bike on a stand and take the push rod covers off and then rotate the back tire, with it in gear, and you will understand a lot easier which one to adjust watching them.

Yep that one will work, but here's a thought, if you are thinking off changing your cam to a 585, your going to do this again, so the cam is an easy install.
Bowhunter also has a how to on "585 cam install" pretty much the same as these instructions but goes a little further to explain the cam swap. Check it out

Make sure the motor is cold when you adjust the valves.

Bowhunter makes that clear in the first sentence of his how to.

Tony, I have never heard of anything pinging at idle, I might be wrong but I don't think it's possible, I think your hearing the rocker arms and valves not pinging! Sven, what cha think????

No you do not.

just make sure you put the covers back on the right side up or they will pop back off when you crank it and oil will go everywhere.

Thanks all. I went with the easy things first and that has cleared it up. New K&P KN 170C oil filter (thanks Ker, Franco) and some 93 octane with a few oz. of boost (thanks Sven, Bill), a bit of tuning on the carb and viola. All issues resolved. Grateful for all your inputs you saved my mucho dinero again..
