I did jump it with the car running, which probably smoked the EHC, but I have a new one (EHC that is, not car). Learned that the hard way. Need to check Voltage reg.

make sure that your circuit breaker is not tripped....check the little black button on the bottom of it.....just push it in a few times and see if it was tripped or not

will do! Thanks so much everyone for the advice. I gotta say, I'm a little annoyed with Big Dog right now. The 2000 HD Softail Deuce I traded in had 13K miles and not one single issue the whole time. I've had the BD for a month and I'm pulling out my hair! Thanks for the support everyone. Keep the advice coming if you have any!

If you find out that you still need an EHC, I have one (new still in the package). I bought it as a spare, but went to the Wire Plus Module and now I don't need a spare :D. I sold my used one to SHOW of 100 bucks. I will sell this new one for $175 Shipped. Could save you a few bucks :D. I hope your dead battery problems are something other than the EHC. However, if you need one you know where one is available at $175.00 shipped.

Thanks First Sergeant! I'm ex-Army. You gotta fill me in on what the Wire Plus Module is. If it is so much better, I might go that way. BUt 175 for an EHC is a screaming deal. My new one was 475!

It has been my experience that bad things happen to those that do not post an Intro, and bad things sometimes continue till this is done.

It is possible that the new battery is not a good battery.

How far do yuo ride to work?

I would take the scoot to a Forum Respected dealer and get this scoot a professional check up. May be cheaper than throwing good money at this issue over and over. Check out Dealer ratings to find a good dlr.

Pep Boys Battery was the first clue I saw.

If my bike smoked three Interstate 270cca batteries in 4 months, I'd say a Pep Boys battery stands no chance!!!

For starters, is this PepBoys battery a AGM battery? If it isn't, you need to get a AGM (Glass Mat) battery. I was told that Ridgebacks and Pitbulls will WASTE a standard battery FAST!

Jake,

You are burning almost a battery a month? Good ones? You are right, my standard Pep Boys Bat has no chance.

That was back last year before my Wire-Plus/Compu-Fire swap out.

I think the Factory VR (2nd one) was bad and was smoking EHC's and batteries.

Maybe that is what is wrong with mine. The VR. It has been mentioned on this thread several times. Can you explain to me what a Wire-Plus does and why it is so good?

As far as batteries go you can get a Harley battery 275 amp that will fit and its a AGM for about $110. You can take your old battery in and they will size it for you.:hi:

Gilmore,
Without going into much detail (from lack of knowledge), the Wire Plus takes the place of the EHC in your bike. It's a tried and proven piece of equipment that does not leave you stranded on the side of the road like the EHC will. Probably half the threads on this site have the letters EHC listed as a probable cause for problems and the range of problems is endless. I have one ordered for my wife's '03 Mastiff and the first sign of problems I have with my '05 Pitbull and that EHC is history. Jake sells these and you just missed a group buy, but members still get a discount.

Checked it out on Jakes's website. Wow, over $500. I just bought a new EHC for about that. I should have got the Wire-Plus in the first place. Didn't know they existed though!

Don't Look at my Member!
I think if your VR is bad 100 Wire plus modules won't fix it. Get your VR checked out if you dont know how to do it.

Get with Jake on the Wire Plus Module. I don't know what they go for now, but it will be well worth it. What this does it replaces you ECH, you will have to replace your ignition switch as well but you will be able to continue to use the BDM hand controls. Jake at | | LOW DOWN CHOP SHOP | Big, Dog, Parts, Custom, Off - Low Down Chop Shop had a group buy going on now maybe you can get in on that, it will certainly be less than what you last paid for the EHC.

As stated above check out your charging system, but you may have multiple problems though. Check one thing at a time and fix or eliminate that problem. I believe most of the time there is another problem that takes out the EHC. Voltage regulators, bad wires, water, and such. The horn button acting as a kill switch would concern me. Did the new EHC remedy that problem?

RRRUFF,

Yep, the EHC fixed the horn issue.

Gentlemen: I took my bike back to the place I bought it. They have a couple of mechanics on site. They said the reason it won't start is because it has a bad starter! They said that the one on it has been rebuilt once already! A BD Starter is almost $400! Anyone know of an aftermarket starter that is cheaper and good?
