If one or both of the compression releases are cycling then your EHC is getting signal from the handle bar/ignition switch and the 'upstream' part sounds like it is working fine. Focus on the wiring from EHC to starter making sure there are no issues. Also may want to check that the ground at the starter is good...these things take a lot of juice to turn over and need a strong connection (pos and negative) to spin.
Slam button bypasses wiring from EHC/handle bars but will still need good power/ground to the starter...if you have one it is worth getting everything out of the way to install and with starter open you should be able to identify issues too...install the slam button and see if that works.

The easiest and cheapest fix would be either put the slam button back or add a hidden push button to the green wire term. The only problem is the compression releases. It will be harder on the battery unless you can hit both buttons at the same time.

You could also splice the wire from the start button to a relay that then runs to the green wire.
Remember that the wire from the start switch will be at GROUND when ON. You will be switch the ground not 12V

switch ------ NEG term of relay

12v --------- POS term of relay

12v --------- One side of relay output (heavier wire here)

NO (normally open) to green wire to starter.

This conversation started with a kick starter for a 2006 K-9 and it went on and still no start. The click click is very familiar on this bikes and no one has even mentioned the Battery. I have a 2006 Mastiff and every time this dog got click click fever I took the battery out and installed a new one. Every thing worked with the old battery. The headlights, brake lights, compression releases and except that it would not start or crank over just CLICK CLICK and that was good enough for me to get a new battery. I use a TR Performance B1500 light weight 15 lbs and 465 CCA it's a little pricy but it last a good 3 to four years if maintained on a Battery Tender.

How old is your battery and have you had it Load Tested to see what it puts out under load. It has to be at least 12.8 to get this sucker started. I would start there and next I would replace the side right Circuit Board. If that don't work than at least know those parts are good.

I am not 70 but I've been thru there some 6 and almost 7 years ago, I'll be 77 in 17 days, so just because your getting old doesn't mean you have to stop riding. I am looking to see if the wife want to get BOSS HOGG Trike and if she does, I'll be back on the road as much as possible.

Here is where I am at...put Slam Button on new starter and she cranked right up. The Slam is more or less ok and I am somewhat comfortable with it; i say somewhat because due to the location of the starter on the K-9 requires one to reach through the drive belt to engage the starter. So if not in 'true" neutral it can be a bit dicey...
As far as the hunt for the 12v to the "Green" wire .....it is ongoing.

Battery is less than a year old and is on a tender. My thoughts in the original post for a kick starter was because of issues encountered with the starter and ignition system on BD bikes. Unfortunately while it would be nice to have and possibly be popular if available, it is currently cost preventive.
