Kick Stand Question

HI,
At the dealer I notice they prop the kickstand with a small block under the kick stand to make the bike a little more upright. Is there an addon to this? Is it the right thing to do?
I also have seen heavy bikes kick stand eating into the tarmac and toppling the bike over. Is there an addon to increase the surface area at the bottom of the kickstand to prevent this from happening?
Has anyone ever had this problem? Thanks again for your advise...

If you look in some bike mags you'll see they put a puck or block under the stand to present the bike better. Same at some dealers. Just for looks.

As far as asphalt if it gets hot enough a kick stand can sink in and topple the bike. Seen it happen. So its also a good place to use a spreader or plate under the stand. Concrete no problem unless its still wet!:roll:

JP cycles has them and most shows will have them for free/sale. I know I got one from the folks at Geico for free.

At rallies, rides and stuff, I use a squashed beer/soda can.

You can also make your own out of whatever you feel like using.

I cut about 20 of these out of diamond plate for the last bike party we had at our house. Still got about 2 0r 3 left.

Mmmmmhmmm....... These things are like gold to any biker. But yes a beer can will do just fine in a crunch.

Even a simple square piece of wood will work ...anything that diffuses / distributes the weight.

Only use it when I need it......hot asphalt, sand, etc.

That chrome piece looks nice but if you forget and ride away without it that's $50.00 bucks down the drain.....that's why I carry a small square piece of wood...not pretty but if I forget it, I just make another...

Don't spend any real money on this...

Just keep it simple...

You spend big money on this and you'll forget it somewhere.

I have even used a crushed 20oz soda bottle...

But I carry a small piece of alum in my toolroll... works great.

In all honesty, you can get nice plastic ones... maybe Big Dog Biker should get a production run of these

Kickstand

There are several kickstand pads available in the popular bike parts magazines, all for under 20 bucks. They would work well. My criteria is that it needs to slip into my back pocket. I see one or two in the mags that are roundish and non metal that have a little flexability in them. That would work for me.
I am not to concerned with the kickstand sinking in asphalt. What I am concerned about is the kickstand rusting from the chrome scrapping off on the asphalt/concrete. Looks like shit to have a rust on the bottom of the foot. This is what I do ...... Simply keep a beer coaster in your back pocket and place that under the stand.
