k9 frame failure?

damn did Daytec say how many had this happen or did they really say just one other?

Did you happen to hear how much the frame was?

Do you know if Daytec is also making the Ridgeback 330 frame?

I don't know how many. BD wants $4k for a frame. Don't know who makes what frames. Daytec is pretty much the benchmark that all other frames are measured against. A reliable little bird told me that Daytec did not agree with the way BD designed the K9 frame in that area, but their concerns were ignored. Having said all that, there is no need for hysteria, if there was a significant number of frames failing, we would surely hear about it on this forum. I'm not at all happy with the way BD handled this, and if it was my frame I would have raised hell, but my buddy is really just concerned with getting his bike back on the road.

Looks faulty to me, if due to being hit you would think it would have cracked from the bottom up not top down, call BDM and talk to them directly.
If the crack was caused from hitting something hard, very hard, it would push up on the frame and if it did bend it going up, it would crack the top first. But I find it hard to believe. I have done a few frame swaps due to accidents, I had to cut the neck off to send it back to Bigdog and let me tell you, that frame is very tough, they use some serious tubing with very thick walled over 1/8". Also yes Bigdog does make the frames, right there in house in Wichita. I have never seen one do that before even ones that have been in serious accidents.

What I disagreed with was that he had scrapes on the bottom of his frame, but not one was down to the metal, and no dents or evidence of an impact to that specific area. They should have stepped up and taken care of it. This isn't something stupid like an air cleaner falling off. I personally would ghost ride the bike through the front door in KS before I shelled out a dime of my own cash to fix a problem like this, but again, the owner is much easier going and is more concerned with getting the bike back on the road.
