K9 (2007) clutch slips at 8500miles

Energy One
Hello BIGDOG's

Last year when I renew my BIGDOG K9 117ci (2007) at 8500 miles my clutch. As I told the mechanic, he has a new clutch with 12 steel plates and friction plates 12 installed. Today, after 1000miles 10Monaten and the clutch slips again. In the primary drive (left), I (32oz) Golden Spectro American oil.

What clutch you installed it?
Where can I buy a better clutch?

It could be the clutch adjustment, the 12 plate clutches are harder to adjust properly. I would try loosening the clutch cable length adjustment a small amount to see if it helps. As the clutch wears you might need to do this adjustment more than once for the life of the clutch.
Or it may be that the diaphragm spring in your clutch went bad (got weak), it happens sometimes.

I agree try adjustments first! You may need to tweak with it a bit until you get it dialed in correctly. Seeing how it's new and all. If your really looking to buy a good replacement then most on here are using a Bandit clutch set-up which seems to work fine with our scoots...:2thumbs:

Definitely adjust first if you haven't already tried that. Just did mine this morning, WORLD of difference. As the plates wear, the clutch pushrod may need adjusting. Mine did, turned out 1 full turn before it loosened up. Test ride = no slip!

Just some thoughts. Check clutch hub nut. I have an 07 K-9 and my clutch basket splines were chewed up. Non hardened from Baker itself who would not warranty it of course. There upgraded clutch basket was hardened. Go figure. Before I replaced it my clutch would slip under a heavy throttle.

Ditto, when my clutch started slipping, it was the nut had backed off. If you adjust it and it slips after a few miles, it's probably the nut.

And the bdm mechanic in San Antonio told me to slather the threads with red lock tite. He's never had one come back in for a loose nut... But it maybe a bitch to get off down the road.

Is there a sound related to the clutch slipping? Under heavy throttle I feel the clutch slipping a little and an odd hard to describe sound, it sounds sort of like arching. 04 Mastiff with 21k miles, time for new plates?
