thanks
shane

edit: found the answer. kn-170(black)/kn-170c(chrome)

This topic has been beatin like a dead horse on the owners group forum. The problem is the check valve in the 171. Its designed for the twin cam not the evo motor

Even though the service manual calls out the 171, like Gas said Evo filters in Evo motor...

The check valve is 1 more thing that "could" fail, but is not needed.

So why take a chance?

thanks for the backup there cutter. narow37 and i both are new to the site and haven't had a chance to go thru all of the threads yet, thereby we missed the coverage of the filters in the owners group forum. one of the filters is for narow37 and one is for me, so it would have effected two dogs. no ruffled feathers intended. thanks for all the help gas man. remember; "there are no stupid questions".

A couple of weeks ago I was talking to a HD Parts guy and he told me that HD is now using the 63798-99a for both EVO and TC. So I'm stickin with the S&S.

My dealer in San Diego used only 171c's and I have put thousand of miles on two Big Dogs with this filter.
Everyone screams not to use it but I have to date not seen any evidence that it will harm your motor.
I now use a re-usable filter but till I switched I used 171's and had no problems.
Later,
Ray
