ok I’m getting closer to getting this thing to run, but for some reason when I hit the start button my harness is only sending 5 volts, so all I’m hearing is the compression relief valves going off and my ech light flashing as unhere clicks. It’s a new ech from elektronik and I also changed out the ignition module. Where do I go from here any ideas?

Have you had a battery test. These s&s motors need at least 300 cranking amps. I just installed a new deka etx 20L battery. The one I replaced lasted 4 years 10 months and 15 days.

I guess I need to go get it checked, it was brand new about a year ago and never used it but I do need to get it changed

Need to pull an amperage test. They will say 12.7 volts but when you put a load then the voltage drops. Again the s&s 117 with compression releases needs 300 cca to start the engine. If it doesn't fire within the first 3 tries your battery will need to be charged. They drain that quickly. Ask me how I know.

I’m gonna go get the battery liad tested. I just figured out that my battery is not grounded to the transmission case.

Check all leads to make sure they are tight. Vibration will cause the battery leads to come loose.

This is a post to make aware of a situation I experienced in the past. Years ago, I think it was my first replacement battery, I purchased what I thought would be a good battery (interstate). Lasted a week, got another warranty replacement. It, too, lasted a week. Did a thorough look over of the battery and noticed it didn't look quite right. Started peeling off the pretty green label stating 320 CCA and found a yuasa label beneath with 270cca beneath.
Be aware of what you are buying!!!!!!!!

Your battery should have a large wire from the negative to somewhere near the starter. With clean good connections. When you said it only has 5 volts. Is that at the green smaller wire or the main larger wire from the battery at the starter?

It was 5 volts at the green wire. Just added a ground from battery to trans case / starter and eureka!! lol. I’ve got a starter working !! lol

Good call on getting the battery load‑tested and checking the ground. These S&S motors are picky about cranking amps, so making sure you’ve got a solid 300+ CCA and a clean ground should help narrow things down.
