K-9 tank on a Chopper?

as we all know the 2007 Chopper has a 3.8 gal tank capacity. The 2007 K-9 has a 4.4 gal capacity. That comes out to another .6 gallon. I know that the K-9 has an extra inch in backbone stretch (4") vs. (3") . But would it be possible to put a K-9 tank on a Chopper as long as the K-9 tank comes from the same year production as the Chopper. Just a thought on trying to find a way to increase the fuel capacity of the Chopper without going aftermarket. This is just a random idea I had but thought it would be good to post to obtain the wise and varied input from so many knowledgeable members. Although it may not be cost effective considering the fuel gain verses the cost .

The K9 tank mounts differently than the Chopper tank. The K9 has 2 bolts in the front and 1 in the back. The Chopper has 2 in the back and the front. It would take more to modify the frame to accept the tank than to modify a Chopper tank for more volume. Raywood is looking to do the same thing.

Narow, thanks. I feel Ray on this one. You might have thought that BDM would have just put a 4.4 gal tank on both from the start. It would have been a very minor production change for them and made both model owners happy when it comes to this issue.

Well I suppose that it really might be a mundane point. It is what it is. I love my Chopper no matter what. 3.8 tank or not. I just go 110 to 115 miles and then start looking in ernest for fuel. It was just a thought. :)

Yes they could do that but, that would cost the company more tooling costs and less profit per bike. Plus they probably had thousands of Chopper tanks left and they aren't going to leave those on the shelf. Just my thoughts.

Good point. That is just good business on there part. Right now I am just jonesing to get to Myrtle Beach in May. :):)

Also, I think the angle of the backbone on the Chopper is a little steeper than the K9 and with the position of the gas cap hole, tilting the K9 tank up may make that tank not hold as much. Not totally sure without inspecting both models side by side. This is the reason that when old school choppers got raked and stretched which would put more angle on the backbone, they would move the gas hole up to the peak of the tank to maximize fuel volume.

i look at it this way,the more times i gotta stop for gas the higher the percentage that the MILF in the mini-van or someones girlfriend is gonna wanna fullfill her fantasies on the back of the bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Narow, youv'e got antoher good point there.

Scub, were getting closer and closer to that ride side by side all the way to biker Nirvana :) If I don't find a trailer by then you can bet I'm ridng mine for sure.

I would think that doing a Ray idea change would be the best bet. Get the tank customized... Reaper did.

i dont really think so blue still recovering from the ticker attack,both physically and financially,i hadnt worked for past 3 months so i depleted alot of funds,good news is i just started back 2 weeks ago,semi retired the paint guns and now i am up in the office.......

hey jimi & bbd, when the weather warms up, i would like to connect with some other dogs to check that mileage on a tank of petrol. i figure with my fat ass on the k-9, i should need fuel before bbd. and jimi, don't let the ticker stuff spin your head. my heart doc bitches about all his efforts being wasted due to my love of scooters (he says one mile on the bike in maryland traffic is more risky than two cheesburger subs with extra mayo). regards, chuck

Well, Blue, they sorta did - and then they called it is K-9! :eek: :rolleyes:

(Sorry - keeping in tune with all the political correctness and sensitivity of the campaign season, I hereby apologize to all Chopper owners! :cheers: :D )
