K-9 Rear Gas Tank Mouint

Can anyone tell me if the rear gas tank mount (rubber football) has to be threaded fully on the stud? Or can it be adjusted higher on the stud to engage the metal on the tank? I ask because after re-installing my tank everything is tight but the rear of the tank vibrates at\over 3000 rpms. It doesn't shake side to side but vibrates the rest of the tank. I checked the top motor mounts and they are tight. I ordered new rubber for all of the tank mounts from Bikers Dream Atlanta.

I think that's the whole point of that mess, to be able to adjust out vibration. Spin it out and see.

I ended up receiving my new rubber bushings and rear mount today from Bikers Dream Atlanta. I will compare the new and old. If it isn't worn I will slap some loctite and adjust the height. Thanks Moe.

Its adjustable so that you can raise or lower the front of the tank as the front mount pivots you can increase or decrease clearance between the tank and speedo mount

I have the same vibration after removing and reinstalling my tank. To I need to adjust the rear mount up or down?

I wood check the bolts on the front underside as thare are two more under the allen heads that tend to come loose rear mount usally dont cause no problems

I have mine apart now. I am making the rear mount a little taller to engage the tank.

Thanks Rub. I am going to replace the rubber bushings and mount since I am at 14,000 miles. I will adjust the rear mount taller to see if it works. The service manual says that the spacer(threaded nut) should be screwed all the way to the base of the mount. I construe that "should" means if it is still loose than it can be adjusted.

I have 2006 K9 and had same problem, I cut two pieces of car heater hose down the side and glued together, then put over top bar in under front of gas tank and that fixed mine, I have had like this for several years now.

I replaced the rear one on mine last year. It was a Harley tank mount....had to modify it a little but it worked

Thanks guys. Appreciate the help. I adjusted the rear mount a little taller and it now doesn't have any vertical play in it. I haven't test ridden it yet. I am waiting for the loctite to cure on the bolts first. Hey Bruce are you going to Carlisle this year for their bike weekend?

You guys should consider exactly what you mean by "vibrate". These are hard mounted twins. A number of variables can come in to play causing vibration. If the tank is actually moving around thats not good but if the tank just feels like a giant vibrator on medium it could be something else our it could be just the way it is. My tank has always had some vibration, 30000 miles later. It sounds like Bruce's idea worked though. Any chance you can give us a pic of what you did Bruce.

FYI, Mine feels like a "Giant vibrator on Medium" and I figure it keeps the gasoline mixed up nice.

not sure if I am going to carlisle this year, but if you are coming this way and need place to stay let me no. I will try and take some pictures of what I did Monday and post here for vibration.

now take bolts out holding tank ( do not remove tank just lift), then slide under on top bar just back far enough so you can not see ( remember check for wires etc. may need to move a little), I used some glue to help hold in place, then tighten tank back down.
