K-9 owner a little frustrated with bike...

My last post was several weeks ago. It concerned my 2010 carborated K-9 stalling while driving regardless of whether I was giving it gas or letting off the gas. It would just stall on me, but it would immediately start back up, but then stall again after a few hundred feet as if the bike ran out of fuel. Anyway, during the past few weeks, I have followed advice such as turning up the idle and choke a little, putting fresh new gas in, a water remover product and more. All good ideas but unfortunately nothing helped. Today I was going to drive it to the shop which is about 30 minutes away to have it looked at. After about 10 minutes of driving and stalling, it stalled again but this time when I turned it back on, the engine had literally no power and did not even sound right. The bike would not go over 10 mph without stalling. Luckily I was able to get the bike home, but now I have to have the shop come out to my home and take the bike back to their shop. I'm hoping its something simple like a bad spark plug or maybe a fuel filter I don't know. Unfortunately I'm not very mechanically inclined. I just know today literally shocked the hell out of me as I was almost broke down. Has anyone had a similar problem with their bike ?

have not had this problem but to go down the list

gas, sounds like you have checked most possibilities

air, new filter? try w/o filter.

spark, bad plugs. bad wires. bad voltage regulator. ( all signs of low voltage, spark not hot/ consistent enough)

compression, compression releases sticking open.

When it does it, try loosening the gas cap and if it makes a hissing noise the cap vent is messed up and you are vapor locking.

Whatever is going on it is going to be an easy fix. There are so many possibilities. With the way it typically re-starts I would lean the fuel direction. Stalls, bowl fills up, runs a little bit again, bowl goes dry. As stated above gas cap, tank liner failled and plugged shit up. Don't lose faith!

remove gas line a see what gas flow you have,
ive seen an big air bubble in gas line restrice flow to the point of shut down!!

Thanks everyone for the advice and help with this. I guess there could be many causes as to why this problem is occurring and I partially understand the reasons why certain things could be the cause. The item that does confuse me though is the gas cap and tank liner being plugged and or failing. Nothing has ever gotten into the tank other than 93 octane gas so I don't understand what could be plugging the tank up. As I mentioned I'm not very mechanically inclined and don't want to start tinkering with things and risk something else happening. I know none of you would do this but probably the best solution for me is to have them come get the bike and take care of the issue. At least I have my other bike to ride in the mean time, so I should be thankful for that until I get the K-9 back on its feet.

The only thing to fear when working on your bike: is not remembering where you took something off, and dropping a tool on your paint.

Checking the easy things listed above, can save you lots of time and $$$$$$$

Your right dude. I should try to work on this myself. I even have the large service manual for the bike which explains everything. I'd just hate to create an issue on my behalf. Believe me I also don't wanna spend money and also be without the bike. Too bad one of your guys didnt live close by. I through someone a few dollars and a case of beer for their time to fix whatever problem the bike.

x2 on the vapor lock, Mine would do this exact thing and if I loosened the gas cap it would vent properly and away we go! Hope you get it resolved soon and your back on the open road.

Hey Chris, just a idea for you. I live in FL and ride in the heat. Since I bought my BD I've had no problems. My friend has a K-9 and he installed a shield on the fuel line where it runs between the cylinders for protection from vapor lock. You don't even notice it behind the carb. I did the same and also replaced the fuel lines with braided stainless at the same time. The shield slips over the fuel line and you can use a small clamp to hold in place. You can get the shields at any auto parts store. They're heat shields for plug wires, comes 2 to a pack for about $12 made of heat reistance material. Good luck, Bob

How much fuel do you currently have in the tank? Take the cap off and see if it runs better. Easy cost free test.

Well as I mentioned, the bike would stall and then restart with no issues. The bike might go half a mile at 50mph then stall again. All the times that it stalled, the engine always sounded fine. Today however when it stalled, I tried to restart it and the engine now sounds horrible like its misfiring. The bike has literally no power and wont go over 10mph without stalling. It does not even sound or feel like the same bike. A while back I had a camaro and one of the spark plugs was misfiring and it made the car run like total crap before I was able to get it changed out.

I just filled the tank with fresh 93 today. Shortly after the engine started acting and sounding horrible like it was a different bike entirely.

Hmmm my gas cap don't click. I think you may have an after market cap. I would say loosen it up and try riding with it loose and see if the stalling stops.
