K-9 arriving tomorrow night :)

I just got a call from the trucking company earlier this evening that my new K-9 will be delivered to my house tomorrow around 7pm. I am so excited. I've been waiting for what feels like forever now and the level of excitement has literally been nonstop. The bike is a 2010 with 23 miles on it. I have a question about the engine break-in period. Could someone please tell me what the speeds and rpms limits are that should not be exceeded during this period and also the number of miles that you have to do this for. I know that on previous new bikes like my old ninja that for the 1st 500 miles your are told what the max speed/rpm limits allowed are and then from 500 to 800 miles there is another speed/rpm limitation that you have to maintain. After 800 miles you can drive the bike normally. I'm sure the information specific to this bike is in my owner's manual but unfortunately the manual accidently did not get shipped out yet, but will be here next week. Natrually I'm going to be very careful riding the bike tomorrow when she arrives but I do not want to accidently do anything wrong speed/rpm wise that might cause engine damage. Thank you so much.

Congrats:2thumbs:
With the new bike will be an owners manual that covers this in detail

Initial break in:
First 3000 miles no higher than 4000rpm and do not lug the motor below 2000rpm in any gear

After 3000 miles, ride to enjoy it

/////////////////////////

Also, I rarely use 6th gear below 75mph
You should not have to use the enrichiner (choke) to start it
Keep it on a battery tender as there is about a 2% power loss daily from the battery

Have fun:cheers:

:cheers:My 2008 Owners Manual has the following info during break-in (At least what I thought was important):

Avoid lugging the engine, operating at low speeds or idle for extended periods (less than 5 minutes is acceptable), avoid extended periods of time at a constant rpm (varying the rpm will benefit the engine), and also avoid racing, burnouts and dynos

First 500 miles avoid being outside the following:
Gear 1: Not to exceed 3,000 rpm
Gears 2-4: 2,000 - 3,000 rpm
Gears 5-6: 2,500 - 3,500 rpm

500 to 1,000 miles avoid being outside the following:
Gear 1: Not to exceed 3,300 rpm
Gears 2-4: 2,000 - 3,900 rpm
Gears 5-6: 2,500 - 3,900 rpm

1,000 to 3,000 miles avoid being outside the following:
Gear 1: Not to exceed 4,000 rpm
Gears 2-4: 2,000 - 5,000 rpm
Gears 5-6: 2,500 - 5,000 rpm

Also, never snap the throttle open or place any real load on the engine during initial startup or when the engine is cold, as the head gaskets are easily damaged during this time.

Your owners manual might be different.:D

PS: At 3,000 rpm in 6th Gear you might be going 83 MPH!

Also never, apply throttle while engaging starter, increased cylinder pressure can cause damage to your starter.

I didn't receive a manual right away and found this out the hard way.

ENJOY post some pics!

Send pics. I love my bike. The bitch is fast and commands respect. Always a thumbs up! You'll love your baby and spend count-less nights sitting in the garage perusing her. Big Dogs are a pure joy! Enjoy my friend!
