K-9 4th gear

Got a question that has me stumped. Went for my first big ride today with rc18 and a buddy of ours. Had a blast but my question is when I get on the throttle hard in 4th gear it feels like it's slipping. It does not do it in any other gear (slip I mean) but will do it every time you get on it in 4th. Again does not do it if your not really twisting on the throttle. It feels like the clutch is slipping, but it has me stumped because it doesn't do it in any other gear. No noise at all from Trans and the belt isn't slipping.

Any ideas?

I know its not your belt. Are you in the same RPM range in the other gears as you are in 4th, cause that seems weird if you are.

What are you running for primary oil?
Not sure on primary oil, the bike only has 3,200 miles on it. It's an 08. Also I'm not sure on the rpm in 5th and 6th but you can get on it hard from a stop through 3rd but 4th feels lazy and 5th and 6th you can def feel it pulling hard at 3/4 throttle.

Should I change primary fluid?

That's where I would start. Always stat with the simple cheap things.

You would think. I just had a guy with a Harley ask me the same question. He said it started doing it after he changed his primary oil over to a full synthetic oil. He had the primary cover off, so I told him to pull the clutch and check and clean the discs. Waiting to hear back from him too.

I ran auto Trans fluid in my mastiff when I pulled the primary and worked on it. It works great but now the SOB leaks. I'm gonna try to drain the primary and refill and adjust the clutch. Not sure what else would cause it.

Mine did the exact same thing in 3rd and 4th gears, I think someone here mentioned that when it starts to slip, it will do it in 3rd and 4th gears first, I did change my oil to B&M trick shift tranny oil and it stopped slipping, for now, had to ride it a few times and do it again to clean out all the synthetic oil that was in there.

Thank you very much cdogg for taking the time to post a response. I've been very concerned about it since it happened. Your post has given me a bit of relief. A clutch is no problem, but a new Trans will knock me out of riding for the entire season. I've got a ton of stuff tore apart right now and am bleeding $. Thanks again for the input it helped my stress level. I'm gonna change the fluid and adjust the clutch.

Don't forget to clean the disc's like Shannon suggested if your using the existing clutch. And then soak them in the new primary oil when you put them in
