Just getting clicking when hitting start button

2006 k9. When I turn it in and hit the start button on the controls it just gives a loud click with the headlight going off and then back on. Will not start. However, will start just fine when pushing plunger on front of starter. Checked green wire going to starter and no power. The green from the switch goes into a small box with the green out going to starter. Any idea on this issue and is this box a starter solenoid as it has other wires going into it. Can I bypass by splicing the in and out green wires together. Any info is appreciated as would like to use start button on bars.

Could I also just splice a wire from the green wire in to the starter leaving it going into the box but a wire also going to starter to fire the starter. That way the functions work as I assume the click is the compression releases.

Years ago I had my whole bike rewired to avoid this and other BDM problems (had brain removed) . I had a marine starter ignition installed (key switch for a boat).
As for the CR's, I had mine replaced with manuals, 14mm long reach. About a 90 mic job.
On a side note, until I was able to r&r the CR's, I injected PB blaster into the rubber boots (through a pinhole I found) that protect the CR's from life's crud. Tapped lightly on the top of the CR's until I felt them open freely. Bike started like normal.

I also have an issue where my neutral light is not coming on while in neutral. Dakota digital. Tested wire at neutral switch on top of tranny and it is getting 12v. I assume switch is bad so I will replace. Not sure if these bikes will start if not in neutral so grasping at hope here. Wondering if the bike thinks it is not in neutral and won’t start. I pulled in clutch and same thing. Did not know if I installed a new switch and it and got the neutral light on if that might get the bike to start at the hand control button. Just grasping for anything as need to replace switch anyway.

Below is a HMAN comment about a neutral switch repair. Before this came to light I removed the gasket below the switch to get one to function. That small of a chamge was all it took.

Im thinking about the N1 but in the meantime Linda @ Baker got me squared away. "Make sure its in neutral, loosen the top cover and move it around till the light comes on". Spot on fix. I didnt know there was that much play in the cover but it works.

Thanks. Pretty sure they start while in gear or at least with clutch pulled in but was hoping. I will see what happens when I replace the switch. Nothing local as top is not like standard two prong ones so have to wait for it to be delivered.

Try loosening the entire trans cover n move it around. Thats how Baker told me to do it. Turns out the switch was fine. Put it in neutral an leave the key in the on position. I had the same trouble locating one that was identical.
