Just for kicks - parting out a Dog

pknowles

RETIRED
I had my bike up for sale ( a 2004 chopper in mint condition with a open belt drive and many custom parts) for 6 months on CL and Ebay. The very best offer I got was $7k IF I shipped it to TX for free. It's still in my garage... I also sold the whole primary with clutch for $150 on ebay and the guy stated "not as described" because it was missing 1 bolt. He got his $150 back and I got screwed... Sell it outright for what ever you can get...
I'm with Bill on this one.

Well, MSRP on a new 124 from S&S is @ $5700 long block, a 111 from S&S is @ $4800 MSRP and they come with a two year warranty.....

Fitting a 124 in a Dog will be very tight.....but should work.....

Just my .02

Don't sell your shit on eBay!!! Too many dishonest people and eBay always sides with the buyer!!!!!!! Sellers eat shit in the end!!!!

Well a few days away did some good. Then Marky Marc was kind enough to spend some valuable time with me on the phone. ThankYou very much Marc!! Per Marcs advise, I cuts off the 2 wires going to the left signal, eliminating the switch from the bike. Then held the +/- batt wires for a bit to discharge the thunderheart. Next installed the battery. Bam, brake lights and rh turn signals work now!!! Only thing bad is lh signal which is obviously the switch only. No ech/thunderheart issues at all !, so now all I have to do is replace that switch and all should be good.

Then im going to continue to list the bike for sale, and i'll just be upfront about the leaking fork seal. At least i'll be back on the road soon, and wont be parting the black bitch out!

I agree for now its a smart decision! But I believe after talking to a few people here that parting out could work just as well. If you can get a good dollar for the engine and tranny - sell them first. Then it should be easy enough to make up the rest. I do have the experience of parts selling on fleabay with vintage Mustang parts - sold 500+ parts so far - so I'm familiar with that hassle - and set up for it. But lets hope it doesn't come to that!! Its cool the control was causing all 3 of my electrical issues at once! That helps a LOT!!! So its a no brainier to fix her.

Thanks everybody for your help - and I'm sorry Marky-Marc for not being able to hook you up with a cheap engine!! I do owe you a beers tho!!!

Yea - I do believe I could do just as good that way - -if not better! But since the fix of 3 electrical problems seem to be 1 part - I better not part out - THIS TIME......haha

Still waiting on the damn switch. J&P shows a LH turn that says TURN-L just like I need. Once it arrived, the part number was the same but it had an arrow and a triangle. WTF? I call them and they say "parts may be different than pics". They said they use different vendors and styles change. I explain I have a TURN-R and need a TURN-L. They said I need to order a set to guarantee they will match. I asked - how does that guarantee I wont get an arrow for the left, and a TURN-R for the right? They had no answer for that....... My first experience with J&P is not a good one......haha. Black Bitch as I have named her, is still on the stand half tore apart!

......Im on extended wait time hold with J&P right now! I read the description and it says "black with white letters". Im going to explain that letters and symbols are not the same. Maybe their policy should state "neither the pic or description may be correct"??

Well, if you're gonna part the bitch out because of a switch, I'll still take the motor dirt cheap!!!!! Bwahahaha.....

Local HD shop should have those, did you check?

well, how much in shipping back and forth do you have now? cost of switches? plus your time? and at least at HD, you'd have the right part and can visually see it.......LOL

I hate J&P cycles. Won't buy shit from them way over priced compared to other online retailers and they charge shipping under $99.

Same can be said for a Harley dealer. I rather wait 7 days than buy a part an over priced Harley dealer.

With that mileage, and as good as it looks, you should be able to move it for that. That other 03, I use to store at my shop, had 22000 on it and sold for $12,000 last year.
