sounds like the best of both worlds is to have an '07 and above, get the tranny rebuilt, and drop in a new S&S 124" non EPA with a open primary. the belt drive is good for what, 140hp? that would be the weak link.

Some 07 have the old main shaft too I don't know what the cutoff is for the 07 year my k9 was #31 off the line that year but I had the old mainshaft in mine unfortunately.

yes, that was why i said to get the tranny rebuilt. mine is #119 and unsure of the shaft myself.

Would be interesting to know how many haven't been updated and what the failure rate actually is

You can get many miles out of the old one. Probably only break if you were really getting on it frequently. Although a loose clutch hub nut would probably increase your chances too.

So far clutch hub has never come loose and when I install the open primary I'll be putting the gmhaedened nut and washer on

Yea if someone was in with red and 150 lbs it won't wander on you
