Jetting Dyno or no Dyno

Okay looking to jet the bike. what is the + side to a dyno when jetting? here is why I ask. Called a shop today seems like the only one on the Island (Hawaii) that uses a dyno $400.00 to hook it up to a computer are you@&$%# serious this does not include jets or labor.

a dyno is a good way to do it but $400 just to hook it up is a piss take. They only have to stick the sniffer in the exhaust and off you go. I paid about £80 for the whole thing when I had mine done.

I went when a local shop was doing 3 runs for $25 special to bring in the crowds. Believe me it worked to bring in the bikers and of course after you signed up there was a wait for your turn. I would say a lot of money was spent on accessories and possibly a bike or 2 was sold while the guys and gals waited, this was a great idea for the shop to stimulate business.
Back to your question, the EGA(exhaust gas analyzer) lets you know if you are rich or lean so you know for sure which way to go with the jet sizes. I would not allow them to run the motor to redline unless you plan to ride that way. I have no intention of going past 4500 rpm ever on this bike. Horsepower numbers are mainly for bragging rights, so unless that matters to you, limit them on the rpm's if you go through with it.
You might try suggesting a dyno day at a low price to draw in the crowds as the shop I decribed. If you can't get a deal, S&S has a good step by step for jetting on their website. $400 is insane.

I wood just look at the plugs and do it the old way like we did before all the electronical dumaflatches comed along and confused everybody

I am going to jet the bike sometime this week. Jets are on order nobody had them in stock. Ran the bike yesterday kept bogging down at about 55 MPH acted like it wanted to cut off then ran great.

Seat of the pants dyno for me. If you're in tune with your bike, you can really tell if minor timing/jet changes are making it better or worse.
