Jacked up transmission

2003 big dog chopper 10000 miles.baker six speed overdrive bought used with 6000 miles
My bike just started getting stuck in gear, I can shift it if i sit and toe the hell out of the shifter back and forth eventually it will shift in to gear. whatever gear its stuck in I can shift in to one up or down easily but the shifter stays in that position and wont spring back into the ready position.

Im also the first guy my mechanic has ever seen blow compression release plug out of the head.-Happened in the desert coming from lake havasau 60 miles from the nearest human being. had to have it towed and ride bitch 7 hours to san diego on my buddies heritage springer-so GAY...

Also developed EXTREMELY loud squeek in pulley. tightened the belt a little on that side. took care of it until I was cruising down the road and a bolt had backed out of the pulley, hit the swing arm. BOOM !!! pulley exploded all over the highway.luckily found replacement on ebay for a hundred fifty clams.

I feel like I shouldve bought a harley...dont get me wrong I love the dog, but its a lot of trouble. Its kinda like having a retarded kid. I love it to death because its mine....but holy crap it makes life hard A LOT!-BTW my wifes pregnant so I gotta say sorry for the re-re jokes (knock on wood my kid is born healthy with a meat bat like his papa swings!) LOL

Does anyone else feel like this? tips on the transmission issue are appreciated

Your shifter problem sounds like bad heim jts

I understand your frustration. But these bikes require alot of TLC and it sucks sometimes!

I wanna say check if there's trans oil but that would be the first thing to check, then primary oil, you didn't say if they were serviced, can you post what the problem was so we know what to look out for...

FYI;
Look up LDO on the base and hook up with him. He's a great guy and I met him when I lived there in Vista. He lives in Temecula and rides an 03 Mastiff and chopped Sporty. Works with one of the maintenance units I believe but just came back from Iraq.

If your shifter is flopping around, you probably have a broken shifter pawl return spring. Should be able to see it with the top off of the tranny. Unfortunately, if thats the problem, you'll have to gut the tranny to repair it.

transmission diagnosis

well,,,where to start. all the bearings on my mainshaft were tore up, as well as the main shaft itself. turned out that the shifter pawl spring had broken and dissintegrated in there. its bein repaired by the guys at moreland choppers in leucadia CA. They told me I was probably moments away from seizing up in flight. Glad that one didnt go down poppin along at about 80 on the 5 north. I just got a new pair of jeans, wouldve probably prematurely put some wear on em'. Keep it rubber side down fellas.
