While removing my front axle to replace my front tire, I found a problem that I couldn't believe.

When I went to remove the 2 allen head bolts that help retain the axle, one would just spin in the hole. When I got it out, I discovered the head of the bolt was held in with silicone!

The shop that had worked on my bike to repair the leaking fork seals had broke the head off the bolt and just stuck it back in the hole instead of repairing it!

I managed to drill out the bolt myself without screwing up the threads.

I'll be having a little discusion with the shop soon.

A front axle falling out of place could really ruin a guys day........

Integrity at it's best... This is why I'll start doing my own work from now on. I'm glad that we have the how-to section on this forum.

I am never surprised by stories like this, that is why I do EVERYTHING I am capable of doing myself. It is crazy to pay to have someone screw up your bike. Good luck! The old saying of: "If you want it done right, do it yourself" is so true.

I was on vacation in SD. I stopped in to check out the place. They had time and I had leaky fork seals. They worked on the fork seals under warranty.

I normally work on my own junk whether it's my cars, pickups, Peterbilt or my bikes. I've seen poor work before, but this was one of the worst.

This is a sad, sad excuse for a dealership of any brand, but especially for it to be a BDM dealership. It doesn't speak well for them, well for them at all.

:zzdisappointed:

Kurt,
Before you go there to have that little discussion with the shop manager. Go by Lowes first and pick-up a whole case of the Dow Corning clear silicone to take with you during your visit. Tell the Shop Mgr. that you brought that case of silicone with you as proof that your just as talented as their trained mechanic that worked on your bike.
An to demonstrate and prove your exquisite talents the the GM of the shop, that you're going to jam that entire case of silicone up that mechanics azz and then we'll all be able to see how well it holds up!

:2thumbs:

After stories like this it's not to hard to figure out why we're all going down the chitter in the end, now is it? :zzdisappointed::nonod:

:spank::bang::rant::angry::loony:

God Job in catching and fixing it Kurt! :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:

Be Safe & Enjoy! :whoop:

I already sent them an email. I wish I would have seen your post before I did. That would have been a great suggestion.

That is NUTS! I would take a revolver in there... 1 bullet. As the guy if he wants to play russion roulette again. Cause that's about what he did with your life and your wife's if she rode on back.

Ya know its not just that they broke it. Its that they covered it up!

They could have just broke it, told you about it, its just as much not their fault that it broke. Things happen. Charge you for the repair of the broken bolt. make more biz and therefore $$$. But to cover it up... WOW.
