Is your Drive Belt Squeling?

Mine was, I poured over all of the posts that the search function would find for me. I tried every suggestion with the exception of replacing the pulley. To no avail. Every 100 miles or so that squel would return and always at the most embarrasing moments. I'm sure if you've had this problem you have been in the same boat.

Knock on wood I believe I have finally found a solution, for me anyway. I have been hesitant to share this expecting it to be only another temporary fix. However, this is going on 400 miles and not one peep.

First, I put the bike on the lift and spent about two hours cleaning that nasty build up of God knows what that has been sprayed on since 2004.
I was scraping the valleys with a screw driver to get that sh*t out. Any way clean it up like new.

I then lathered it up with MINK oil. Let it set for 2 days while I was out of town. Came home, wiped it up the best I could and went for the first peaceful ride to date. It made a little mess throwing the excess oil around the swingarm and all over the wheel, but it cleaned up and has been squeek free since. Thank Heavens and I hope I havent just jinxed it.

You did. The mink oil will wear out like other lubes. If everything is lined up right and no problems with either pulley, there is no reason for it to whine. If it was the belts that are used on the Big Dog bikes, all should squeal equally.

x2 proper allignment and good pulleys should prevent squealing

I agree, it has been lined up properly. Trust me it's straight as an arrow. The problem with the 04's seems to be the rear pulley not being teflon coated.
Everyone reading this forum should know that. Even my dumb ass.

513 miles squel free, it has worked for me. Can't say why.

I just thought I would share.

X 3 I had the same issue when I got my 05 used with 3k miles on it. It was fine till the shit they sprayed on it wore off! I posted a long thread on the old site. There was allot of technical talk of how to align the motor/trans with the rear wheel. I fixed it myself been fine since.

X2. Since the rebuild I havent had one squeal. Same 04 pulley. Just aligned motor trans an rear pulley. I can roll the wheel forwards an backwards and the belt stays completely centered. If you can't get the squeal to stop perhaps a total realignment is in order? Just my thoughts.....
