To start... this will probably be longer than needed... but sometimes a post just runs long.
So, I knew the bike needed a new battery... even when on the tender, I'd still have to ride it for a block or so, turn the ignition off and fire it back up for the odometer and even to get it to switch between it and the trip. But, after it had been sitting on the tender, I rode it to work one night. Go out in the morning and it didn't do anything... no lights came on or anything. Figured the "cold" (I live outside of Phoenix... I wear shorts year round, so it's hardly considered cold) had sapped the battery. Get it back to the house and plug it in and the light on the tender was solid. Hadn't even been hooked up for a minute, unhook it and it fires right up. Fine... whatever, I went and got a new battery for it.
New battery in and off the tender... started right up with no hesitation even after a few days. Go to ride it to work again and again in the morning, it didn't start.
But this time, the lights came on (everything except the headlight) and it even cranked over... so battery was plenty good. I figured that whatever caused the headlight to not come on, also caused a gap in the electrical system that told the bike to not start and that's why it would crank, but wouldn't light off.
Waited a few minutes with the key on while on the phone and the headlight kicked on. Turned the key off and waited another 5, turned the key on and everything looked good... bike fired right off. Ok... odd.
Ride a couple blocks and the bike dies on me. Turn the key off for a minute, back on and again all lights with exception to the headlight. Waited a few and finally the headlight came on and it starts right up. Made it the rest of the way home with no issues.
Didn't plug in the bike when I got home and didn't touch it for a week... turn the bike on and it fires on the first try.
Anyone else run into something like this? Like I said... the "cold" here is hardly cold. If I weren't wearing pants for the ride, I'd be in shorts (and still wore a t-shirt on the ride). But something about when it sits outside it just doesn't like it... but it's fine sitting in the garage even for a week.
