eBay has a pair of 117 cu in (4.125" bore) jugs being auctioned. In another place a set of S&S heads. The jugs are advertised as having some rust inside the cylinders and it is thought that a .10" hone would clean it all up. Would mating the two of these work? What else would be needed? How do you compensate for a slightly oversized cylinder? Over size rings? Obviously I'm not even close to being a mechanic but I am curious as to the 'feasibility' of something like this.

I wouldn't mess with the jugs unless you are going to bore and use over size pistons. Someone on here had a set for sale just a couple weeks ago. Sounds like these might have been setting up awhile and if they have rust pits and youstart boring, you shouldn't stop until you reach clean metal and who knows where that will stop. Is your bike down or are you working on another build? just curious.

Bike is good (just waiting for spring). One of the very few mods I've considered is possibly getting the engine powder coated and diamond cut. Using these (eBay items) and not having to take my engine apart has a certain appeal Just not sure if it would be wise and if not, why? Just thinking if there is a 'cheaper way' of doing that powder & diamond work. (Hope it's warm where you are!!)

Just curious but how would it be any cheaper? Your still going to have to tear yours apart and reassemble. I can tell you pistons from s&s are over $300 a pair no matter what sizei just did mine and ended up with about $1500 in parts only for the top end

60 degrees last Sunday afternoon and 3" of snow a week later and has been in the high teens last couple nights. Calling for near 70 by this coming Thursday??? I'm not a mechanic but would tear my bike down and use parts that i know are good. I'm sure there are others that have some success with ebay parts

Great insight ($1500 in parts only!!). I suppose what I'm really saying is that I wouldn't have to WAIT if I had that second set of jugs/heads. I could just bring the bike and the already done jugs/heads into the shop and tell them to change it right out. I'm seeing that it quite likely wouldn't be cheaper and probably cost even more. Like I say, just curious. But you've given me some very useful info. Just what I was looking for. Guess I'll wait and see if I really do want to powder and diamond cut. . . .time will tell. Right now I'll just settle for a seriously upgraded seat.

I see where your coming from. I could see a time savings I am looking at 3 Weeks to get my heads and jugs back from diamond heads. Luckily its cold here so its not bad. I had my heads rebuilt and cylinders bored with new pistons and that price included having the heads and jugs cut. I lucked out my powder coater owed me a favor so all my powder was done for free.

Cue: not only a time savings but if the pieces I got off of eBay (theoretically) were done, after the exchange was complete, I could probably sell the original heads/jugs so there's that recompense as well. But still the overall feeling I'm getting is that most would not go that route. Too many unknowns. Use what you have is the impression I'm getting. Lucky you, getting powder done free. Any photos?

Use your parts. It will save you the cost of pistons at least.

If you bore you will have the get oversized pistons and rings

In my opinion that is Junk you are looking at on e-Bay. The rust inside the cylinder walls is as bad as it can get and one cylinder had a piece missing on the skirt, like it threw a rod and hit by the rotating assembly. Some one is trying to fuck whoever is stupid enough to believe they are usable. :spank: :spank:

I have a complete set of Jugs, pistons and Heads (not for sale) that I got from ShovelheadKicker a member on here. He usually has some good deals. I did what you are looking to do. Took my heads off, pulled the cylinders off had them honed and added the new cross hatch patten. Sent the heads and jugs out for powder coating, and on to diamond cut. My bike was down for about 2 months max. Got the new rings (standard) comatic gaskets and ARP studs. Put it all together and still going stong after five years or so. I decided on the new cylinders and heads to have in case the bike started to over heat. I was also told that with Powder Coating to expect the bike to heat up more. All of that was bullshit, but I was ready just in case :lol: If I ever blow it up I am half way there for a new motor :D.

another thought on the e-bay cylinders is that they may have come off of an 05 epa model which means you would have to do some work to get them up to date if you will...they were the low compression taller deck height cylinders that someone may have changed out.

No pics yet I just sent the parts out Friday to diamond heads. I will post some as soon as they get back.

You guys have been a big help! So far ALL have said. . . .stay away! Use my own jugs/heads or it has been suggested I go to S&S and look at what they have in diamond cut engine parts. At any rate, I've put away that thinking about those eBay pieces. That's why I asked. Thank you all!
