Is it safe to jump using a car battery ?

The battery in my K-9 died this morning. It just "clicks" when you try to start the bike. Is it ok to jump the bike using a car battery in order to start the bike ?

I was told not to charge it above 6amps or it could fry the EHC. Don't see why jumping it with a car battery with the same CCA makes a difference, but read that it is a risk. If you charge it at 6amps, it should be ready to run in a couple of hours. Good luck.

Thanks guys for the input. I'll just wait for it to charge using a standard 12v charger. If there is a risk of damaging the EHC there is no way I'll chance it by jumping it with a car battery. Thanks again :)

I think they explained it to me like this, kinda like installing a halogen headlight bulb without using rubber gloves to keep oils off your fingers off the bulb, handling a circuit board for a refrigerator without being properly grounded. You have just killed it not knowing when it will actually "Croak". I have already replaced mine with the wire plus, but if I had to, had to, could not roll it off at all, stuck in a valley both sides up,I might jump it off with just the battery, with the other vechicle "NOT" running for sure. I have already found they don't push well at all. That would be the only way I would even think of jumping my scooter off, I would try rolling it off if at all possible.

Down big hill,

Charge it up with a Battery Tender slowly over night,

I've heard not to, but i've had to do it twice. worked both times like a charm, but i wouldn't do it if you don't absolutely have to.

I've tried it but kept blowing a fuse when I connected the cables... it didn't work for me.

Sled wouldn't start 20 miles from home. Had old lady meet me with her Chrysler that has built in voltage converter and my battery charger. Put on 6 volts for 20 minutes. Started up and made it home. Ended up being VC was bad.

If you use a vehicle with the engine not running, I would think it would be ok. I would not use a diesel truck with two batteries or a vehicle with a high CCA battery. I haven't done it and would probably have some one bring me another battery to be safe or trailer it to the house.

Well, I for one ain't buying it...:D

I've jumped mine plenty-o-times; hell once with a running police car and once with a Class-A condo -err, coach sporting only Skid knows how many parallel batteries were loaded in that tray..

Think about it; your starter motor voltage/current shouldn't be going through bus 1 or 2 within the EHC; your starter solenoid voltage sure.

I say do what it takes and sort it out later; speaking from someone who has both a wireplus and DPM or whatever BD calls their EHC elimination kit on the shelf. My EHC's are still working as they should....

How many on here have melted their battery cable terminals/insulation due to poor starter motors and/or solenoid plungers. Did your EHC shrivel up and melt too? Don't think so personally.

What was it BBC say's - honey badger don't give a *(&....:roll::roll::roll:

I have jumped mine a number of times as well with no issues. I do not have a EHC anyway for what it is worth. Mine is a 07 EFI bike..

I've jumped mine several times with the other vehicle NOT running. I haven't had any issues...
