I don't see any problem, you just have to deal with what the prior owner neglected. I'm a testament to that, bought a repo 05 ridgeback in horrible shape and nursed her back to good health, now she screams... :2thumbs:

I have a 2005 Mastiff and it still going strong with close to 40K on it. Kept it basically stock and do my best to keep it well maintained.

Only failed me once and that was due to a chaffed wire on the power harness.

A few minor issue here and there but nothing that would make me place it in the POS category. Have no issue to get on it and go for week on end and let adventures come as they do.

Have other MC and each have some issue or not (will maybe not the wife's Honda). Have had HD before and none of those were trouble free, but nothing major either.

Even my Buell 1125 have concerns due to some others that have issue with alternator stator overheating (so far mine has been good).

Have 5 cars here at the house, all were bought new, and each and everyone of them have had at least one TBS done or a recall.

For me, just good routine maintenace, limited mods for most you may gain something while loosing something else. Most important ride it, seems to like better with less hassle by rding routinely verse just the occasional bar hop.

WOW, I was frustrated because I have to disassemble the rear caliper to get it off the rotor...to shim the rear pulley to keep from rubbing the belt, that aint user friendly.

Didn't know that you guy's would protect the bike like a ugly sister..

answer to some of the questions.
No, it was not maintained well.
I changed the oil ( it was all in the sump)
Ricky Farmer set up my 03 Fatboy when it was new.(Shreveport)
Neighbors 05 BD chopper is the one with electrical gremlins.
My 36 year old Honda, and my 23 year old Harley are in good shape. (I keep them that way, just as I will this Bigdog )

I don't count the horn wire breaking.
I am almost afraid to post , for getting slammed by "carlos" from south Texas

Carlos, fyi..I did find that if I pull the pads out of the rear caliper , I can get the caliper off without having to leave it on the rear wheel. "close , but will come off .

All in all , I now have a pretty good ride , get about 40 mpg,,
actually will pull my 103 cammed ,thunderheader Fatboy..not much , but it will.

I have added a "springer seat", run 25 in the rear tire ...good ride for a hardtail
ran 200 miles yesterday to bury a Sailor, RIP..
got a lot of oohs, and awes at the Patriot Guard misson .

Good to hear the bikes working out for ya! When I was bike shopping, I came upon 2 Big Dogs that I could afford with my limited budget. Researched all the problems and ended up going with the 2005 Chopper even though the 05's seem to have the most issues. I've always wanted a Big Dog but couldnt afford one, the chance of an occasional breakdown wasnt gonna stop me from getting my dream bike. I look forward to wrenching on her, garage time is the only thing that keeps me sane!!!!
