Is anyone running a Mikuni carburetor

Energy One
I've never understood why S&S has not bothered to improve their carb much over the years.
I installed the Genesis PSI Big Air on my K9, similar type of guillotine slide system, and it runs like a beast compared to the S&S carb.
I've talked to a few BD owners that have had the Mikuni put on their rides and they all state the same thing as Liferider.

Looking forward to retirement
Had a interesting conversation at Sturgis last yr. back when Sheldon had Bigdog the bikes were done in a magazine. The riders were blown away by the power these bikes had. According to the old President of Bigdog I talked to these bikes were all set up with Mikuni 48 carbs with Bigdog airbreathers to hide them. S&S had forbidden Mikuni on their motors but this was done to put extra HP on the bike. The power that the Mikuni 48 wakes up in these motors is staggering!

I'm running the 45mm Mikuni. I love it and so does the bike! At that time I made the switch, I was going to go with the 48, but my wrench at the time told me that he talked to a guy that has a lot of experience with Mikunis, and he said that the biggest difference he has ever seen between the 45 and 48 was 5 horsepower, and that was a 145 ci monster motor! He said the 45 will be much better at day to day riding and more forgiving at low rpm. The 45 is also better at cylinder fill at mid and low rpm than any other carb on the market, which means more torque at the rpms where we ride 90 percent of the time. He also said that there is no ac/carb combo out there that will flow more air than a Mik 45 and a forcewinder, so this is what I went with. Also, at the time you couldn't get a 48 in a polished version, so thats all I needed to hear. It is one of the best upgrades I've done to my bike! I got 46 mpg on a long trip last summer, so it's a great carb! A lot people believe that an s&s g will outflow a Mikuni at WOT. Not true! Once a manifold is added to the flow bench, a 45 and 48 Mikuni both make better numbers than the g carb.

What was the link to the complete kits. Didn't you need an adapter for the cables?
If you are talking about the "easy kits", I don't think they will work on big dogs. They come with an adapter to fit the harley air boxes. Mikunis made after 2000 use standard throttle cables. You will need a SE 44mm cv manifold to fit the 45 Mik. For the 48, you will probably need to get a manifold from mikuni. You will also need the right backing plate, depending on what ac you are using.
