Ironhorse or Dogs

Same here... looked at the AIH first and almost bought the Texas Chopper. Went to Strokers in Dallas to get the AIH and seen the Big Dog K-9 and was hooked.

I always wanted the Big Dog K-9 when they first came out :whoop: waited a year before I bought one. I looked at different bikes....but none of them compared to the Dog.....I thought AIH were ok.....but not to the point were I would buy one...to me it was like I had to have the Big Dog  and still can't wipe the grin off my face! :whoop: love it!:2thumbs:

I researched in mags and online for a year before I got serious and strarted driving to get up close and personal with what was out there.
No question, the Dog was a superior bike for me.
Long and Low is where I wanted to go.
Hell yes, I am more than happy with my investment.
I do not really baby the Dog, but she takes good care of me.
Is this my last custom? No, I want one of each BDM model.

Good luck!

i would also like to add the lack of LED's on most bikes.
and i just plan dont like the look. i payed an extra 5g's over a texas chopper for my k-9 and never looked back.
I'm with ya.. it was some of those small things like the LEDs all around that really pushes the dog over the others. I don't like the colored lenses.

But also like someone else said... the welds, the wiring, how BDM hides everything the best they can... the small things.

BigBlue,

Thanks for the confirmation. I have not heard anything bad about BlackDog and have spoke to them a few times in the past. A little further for me and FH has treated me very well.

It appears that we have quite a few members on here from the Maryland and surrounding area, we need to plan a weekend ride pretty soon for when the weather will be somewhat tolerable, possibly mid March.

Best to you and everyone else.

Choper Dave, Yours is not looking too bad either. Wanted to put up a different one of the little lady but was not sure how far we can go on the Avatar without going over the limited.

sun_bill1974, I have an friend that has a friend that has an IH. He spends alot time working on it for him welding and such. I looked at both and liked the BD better simply on apperance. Buy what you want not whats cheapest. Now you can get some good deals on "previously owned" rides and some still have warranty left on them. Just be sure to get the warranty transferred if you go that route and alot times you can get pretty good mods going that route also. Just my 2 cents worth!

I don't understand there warranty;

111 cu in 2 yr
117 cu in 1 yr?
124 cu in 6 mo.???

The new 08 looks like the K-9 doesn't it. Glad they finally got rid of that loooooooooooong tank!!

You're on a BDM owner's site.....without sounding biased......I too looked at all those already mentioned. I'm a freak'n retired mechanical engineer....it's what we do. My wife hates to shop with me because it's got to be the best at the best price.

I have to admit that in 03 when I bought mine I was leaning toward AIH. I didn't like the carbon fiber fenders....AIH felt rugged/manly. I wanted a chopper...hated the Texas Chopper tank...BD frame fit me better and the two-up and sissy bar set-up won me over, and I liked the lines of the BD. The Legend is what I would have probably bought. Since that time, it has been proven over and over I made the right choice. I hate a speedo that you have to read numbers or do the math at a glance. I like that my bike doesn't feel like a tank moving it around a garage or parking lot. I like that I have only taken it into a shop once in 4500 miles and that was for the 500 service. and I hated riding with a guy that spent $50K WCC and we spent so much time on the side of the road bolting parts back on and having electrical/technical issues with an over priced piece of crap......I'll take a Big Dog any day of the week. :iagree:

All said......AIH is using much of the same stuff, motors, tran's, other parts.....just be prepared to go back over the assembly process yourself.....adjust and correct. If the price is right, it maybe worth the trouble

Two good points. When I was originally looking at the Chopper I was warned by the salesman (who sells both BDM and AIH) that the horse had a tendancy to "dive" at low speed when you're making a turn. Balance wasn't as good as the dog.

Second ... spent several hours over a three day period last year at the ROT Rally with a buddy on a WCC "custom" that had something go wrong with it every day.

Thanks for your inputs, and yes the opinions in this group tends to be jaded because everyone owns a BD....but in truth, I too feel your getting more out of bd. I sincerely owe it to my wife, to dissuade my impulsion of buy something because its cheap, instead buy something that I love. Thanks to everyone for your input, its exactly what I needed to re-confirm my intentions....you'll be the first to see, when I do finally pick out my K-9.
