intermittent starting ??

Hi Guys. I have a 2006 Ridgeback. When I go to start it, the signals flash and the horn beeps and she wont turn over. Then if i try again, she fires up. Any thoughts? Battery has a full charge. Id appreciate any info I can piggyback on...

Start by checking/cleaning battery cables.

yup, I did that. clean, good contact and a full charge. I was kinda hoping someone might say something like "that era has a bad sensor" or something like that...but you think its all about trouble shooting huh? check for oil in the starter, frayed wire, etc?

You say it has enough voltage at battery...how much is it reading with your multi meter? At least 12.8VDC?
Also, when you get it running, how much is it putting out at idle VDC? to 3000 rpm?
Your keeping it on a battery tender any time your not riding it? Make sure you check all your cable including your ground going to starter bolts.

Sounds like a low voltage situation. Battery could read full charge but the second you hit that button the voltage drops below acceptable levels.

That was a glitch or side effect in the EHC that was spun as a feature. What happens is you can have a full charge in your battery but it could of lost its capacity. When a battery sulfates over time it looses surface area inside on the plates to hold enough capacity. So in a hard start condition and it pulls the battery down low enough it will pull the voltage down. If it pulls it down low enough even for a few milliseconds it causes the internal controller of the EHC to "reset" so to speak. This will make the horn beep and cause the flasher to engage.

Time for a new battery or at least get the one you have load tested.

I have a 07 mastiff and had the same problem and it turned out to be 2 of the 4 brushes in the starter were stuck had the starter rebuilt for $100 at a local starter shop
