Interesting Kickstand/Peg Issue

Okay. Most of you are not going to understand what I am talking about since most Big Dogs Kickstands were moved behind the primary I beleive in 2004 or 2005 when they went to RSD. The other night I came into a left hand turn a little too hot, overloaded the suspension and bottomed out. Smacked the frame pretty good. I noticed afterward that the kickstand was out of place. When I pushed it in (closer towards the bike) it moved easier than I expected. When I got the bike home, I had a hard time getting it to rest on the stand. The stand kept collapsing. So I put the bike up on the jack stand. In the morning I made my inspection. On the DT Choppers, there is a large motor mount plate up front. Then there are two pieces on either side of this plate that the pegs and controls mount to. The Kickstand is mounted to the peg assembly. There does not seem to be any damage to the peg, kickstand, or the motor mount. Yet everyting on the left side (peg included) seems loose. The only thing I noticed is there is a mounting bolt missing on that side (Hoping and Praying there is not half a bolt in the frame still!!). Is there anything else I can look for? The piece between the motor mount and the peg can turn. But I do not see where the missing bolt and spacer would have any impact on that.

Without being able to see it I would say check your mounting bolts, Frame mounts

hard to see where the kickstand mounts. On my bbc the kickstand is in the front .

The first picture is under the bike where the missing bolt is supposed to be. The secondis of the motor mount and its side piece. The third is where the stand mounts to the bracket and peg.

Yes, sounds like the mount may have been knocked out of alignment or mounting bolt bent. Can't see anything noticeable but I would check all your bolts to make sure trey are not distorted or snapped

On that motor mount each piece is individual and a single bolt holds it to motor mount on the frame.

If you grab that smaller middle piece is that loose? The one that connects to the actual plate? There is a bolt in there and it can be loose. You would probably notice if it was bent.

I would just take it apart and inspect the bolts. They are 12point by the way.

I would remove the bolt completely check to make sure it didn't stretch or bend. I believe its a softer bolt (aluminium) as it's designed to bend so it doesn't Jack up the frame up and motor mount.

That little tab needs to go into that slot. Yours is only on the edge which means:
1- you bent the kickstand
2- The tab is squared on the bolt to hold it in place and you stripped it out a bit.

Take it apart and see which it is. Good luck.

that tab only goes into the slot when the bike is resting on the kickstand.
I think he has it on a jack.
it is supposed to clear the slot when bike weight is off ((spring pulls it out )) , so it will kick up if you forget to put it up.
I agree , take it apart check bolts, alignment, etc ..

The top of the kickstand shaft is square. It goes through a square hole in the L shape arm. The shaft or the hole can get messed up causing your problem. It happened to mine.

It was the one missing bolt!!! The one bolt tightened the entire assembly. It acts as counter-lever. Would never have guessed that. Could not find the same chrome 12 point bolt but replaced it with a normal hex bolt and a lock washer. Its under the bike and can't be seen anyway.

Now its back to the sissy bar project!
