When you have an accident and you still owe on the bike , do they give you the check to take care of it in whatever way you want to.

I guess it all depends on the Insurance Co. My Vehicle had major hail damage done to it and at the time it was not paid for. Geico made the check to the Dealer's Body Shop and Lien holder (Ford Credit), I had to sign a release that we was satisfied with the repairs made.

I also had damage done to another vehicle that was paid for and that check was made to the Dealer's Body Shop and me. When the repairs were done I had to sign that check and a release.

I guess they do that to insure the repairs are made. :whoop:

With my Denali they had me get three quotes from body shops after I was re-ended. They paid the shop directly.
On my Big Dog that was paid for they sent an insurance adjuster out to access the bike and paid me a direct check minus my deductable. This was USAA

I remember the adjuster saying I could have it fixed anywhere I want so hopefully the check will be written out to me.

If money is owed, I would make sense that they would pay the body shop and not you. They want to be sure it gets fixed to protect the money still owed on the vehicle.

If money is owed, and the vehicle is fixable, the check is either written to you AND the body/repair shop; OR they just pay the repair shop.

If NO money is owed, the check USUALLY comes made out to you and you can decide (varies from State to State and by insurance companies).

If the vehicle is TOTALED, the check gets written directly to you of course, or the difference if money is owed.

If the insurance pays for the repairs, they will NOT let YOU do the repairs...liability thing on their part....so, that'll be a tough one.....

On a side note, if they total it, and you want to keep it, you may be able to buy it from them at a certain price (if it's paid for), but then it will have a salvage title. BUT, if money is owed and they total it, you'd almost be better off walking away, it just gets complicated....

Check your state ins laws ! That helped me negotiate my claim. They cut me a check directly minus my deductible and I did my own repairs...

When I called the bank they said no problem just bring the check in and we will deposit in your account and you can do the repairs yourself if that what you want, so I did that and the bitch there said no way . If you want to do the repairs yourself you have to pay for the parts yourself and then bring in receipts and we will reimburse you for the parts , that's all.

I wonder what would happen if you just signed the check and deposited into the ATM.......just a random thought......

Will they reimburse you labor too? Because that is also included in the settlement check....

I WAS TEMPTED TO DEPOSIT THE CHECK ON-LINE BUT I FIGURED IT WOULDNT WORK ,LOL

I DID MENTION LABOR AND SHE SAID THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME MONEY FOR LABOR AFTER RPLACING ALL THE PARTS AND DOING ALL THE WORK THEY AND PROVIDING PICTURES THEY WOULD TAKE THE REMAINING MONEY OF THE PRINCIPAL, SHE WAS A REAL PIECE OF WORK!!

Seriously? GET A NEW BANK! If you have someone else fix it, the BANK will pay them labor, but NOT if you do it? Something just doesn't seem right.....

No Kidding, I will be closing my account soon and I totally in disbelief but I brought to a local repair shop and they wrote me up an estimate and I was told I have to mail the estimate and check to that bank and supposedly the will deposit into my account but Im doubtful .
I called that bank yesterday after the run in with that bitch and the supervisor I spoke with tried to get them to change their mind but they would but he told me hes not suppose to tell me this but have someone write you up an estimate, we'll see what happens

Yes , that's what we did today but I will have him do some things and I hope to do the rest also they said the check will be deposited into my account but Im not betting on it. I don't know they could make it out to the shop and if they do he will have to pay taxes on it so of course I would have to give him the money so he can cover it , wtf! It never ends, :argue: :loony:

Have them make the check out to YOU and the SHOP, you both sign it, then deposit it in another bank, open a new account or something. He then doesn't pay taxes and you don't either.

Ill ask them that when the time comes but like I said I have to mail the check out first and they will probably take a couple weeks before they actually do something. I would have expected this from the ins company not the bank but the insurance co did a great job I thought.
By the was my handle on the social site Bikerornot.com is MarkyMarc.... lol
