Installing The "New" EHC Rip Kit...

Start at 8 am riding by noon. Take lots of pictures for references so you can go back and look don’t forget dielectric grease in every connector. The hardest part is snaking the wire harness through the frame.

To hell with it, after talking to the owner, the shop I took it to last told me to bring it in and he will diagnose what's wrong.
It cost a small fortune in towing costs but at least now when I get it back I 'should' have piece of mind...
Sometimes that’s the best option! Cheers to a good ride this weekend!

Good luck I hope the damage isn't too heavy. Be sure to give us a heads up when you get your bike back.

In reality if the mechanic is not familiar with big dog systems he will say this and that and you will end up paying shop time for hours and hours diagnosing, swapping parts and in the end he will say this thing needs re- wiring. The best thing you can do is start troubleshooting it yourself. It will not only help you learn your bike but give you the satisfaction that you fixed it. And if it breakers down again you will have the confidence to fix it yourself and not be paying someone else hours and hours of shop time... I was in Austin at a bike shop and was going to ask what it would cost to rewire my bike. He said 3 to 5 thousand. He had two big dogs that were tucked in behind several bikes that were dusty. I decided right then that I was going to fix it myself. I have heard over and over how good these bikes are so it can’t be that hard. Both my bikes took me a total of less than 8 hours to fix everything. And I had no experience with these bikes. Whereas a shop would have charged me up near 30 hours to fix. Just keep researching on this forum and you can find all your answers. Start with key switch, and go to ignition until you find out what is broken. That’s what a shop will do and charge you for what you are capable of doing. Quit letting this scare you and jump right in.

I hear yeah, the problem is it ran fine when I got it back from him after he fixed it last time, it just won't start now after I shut it off when I got it home.

I already paid him almost two grand for what he did so far, if he didn't diagnose the electrical as a problem then I will take serious issue with him saying so now because he was supposed to go over it with a fine tooth comb and replace as I told him to do 'fix/replace what ever he felt it needed no matter the cost'.

I specifically said this because I wanted him to make sure the horror stories I've read here about breaking down mid-ride on the interstate would never happen to me.

He said he was an authorized BD shop before BD went under but I only have his word on that.

I'll check in with him next week Tuesday and see how it's going, as a last resort if he does try to pull that on me I will see what he says it would cost to put in and then maybe do it myself but I want to see what he says first...
Electrical gremlins can be a bitch to pin down. Especially when they are intermittent. Keep looking and you will eventually solve the mystery.

It sounds like to me the guy who installed the RIP kit didn’t do it right. This is the first time I have heard of a rip kit not working. There may be more out there but I haven’t heard of one.

I just replaced my 2008 Big Dog K9 with the newest RIP EHC kit. It was very easy and nothing like the video here. It took me about 2.5 hours, but I was not working fast by any means. I simply followed the wires from the old harness and hooked up the new. You do not have to remove the tank or any major parts. Very easy job.

Everything working? Is the bike running fine.

Hey guys!
Ok. I’ve got an 04 Mastiff. We have verified that the module is bad. A few questions. With regard to the RIP kits, what are the differences between one for an 04 and the ones for 05 and up? Will they crossover? Next is that my actual harness is good. That being said I should be able to simply switch the module and not have to retire the bike correct?
