Had the Woods cam and springs installed in my 05 Chopper and it runs like a scalded dog...well almost. Now have major clutch slippage in 1st and 2nd.
Sounds like many others with 05's have faced the same problem so at some point will have to upgrade to the Bandit to avoid broken parts...if I already don't have some. The Big Dog dealership here in Houston did the work along with a list of recall items, plus the 2500 mile service. I'm disappointed in the quality of work, the axel cover was hanging with one bolt when I picked it up and then I pulled the seat off when I got home and found the battery tray bolts in about half way. Plus there is an unexplained knocking noise coming from the engine. After the first 10 miles of driving I thought the engine was going to fly apart so I stopped and let it cool down and it sounded fine when I started it up again. I still had the dealership pick the bike up and recheck everything. Didn't act up with them on the test drive but on my way home it started again and progressively got worse. Road it yesterday and today and nothing. Go figure.... Dealerships are more trouble then they are worth to me but they have been extremely accommodating to my needs.

Here are my responses to the earlier inquiries:

Delly - I was charged 8 hrs to replace the cam/springs at $79/hr plus $180 for parts and other misc fees. The total was around $850 plus $500 for the cam/springs.

ChuckRB05 - John was the tech I dealt with and probably the one that did the cam work. Not sure who did the servicing and recall work. Regardless the service dept had a great attitude and they want to get it right. :up:

I think I recognize your bike. Did you have the strut bolt recall done? I think I remember looking at your bike while talking to Anthony about having to get a special bit to drill that broken bolt out.

That's a rip off on the cam and spring change. How much more is the woods cam over teh S&S 600? I paid $750 for the 600 cam and 640 springs INSTALLED.

BDM has the "easy pull clutch assy" for less than $300 right now...
Big Daddy was telling me that BDM is pushing them to give non-Dog riders an easy "touchy feely" bonus of buying a Big Dog?

I wont even tell you what I paid or even list all of the work that I had done...

ACM definately made an effort to make up for their effin up, and I am in one helluvalot better mood now that I got Freedom under my ass...

The CAM is just over $300?
and the springs would be covered if you are eligible for the service bulletin on the rockers/boxes and or valves which can be replaced oversize...

I am really surprised they didn't recommend higher compression with a 650 Cam to begin with ?!?

from memory I think the woods cam and springs cost around $700 to buy. $500 is very cheap.

Cutter - I hear what you say and this is more of a question than a statement but the woods 650 cam is high lift / short duration. I thought higher compression is more important for the longer duration cams - could be wrong of course - I did get my deck done though when I had my .650 put in.

I am not familiar with the specs of the woods, I assumed that because of the High Lift, the short duration would be relative to minimize the low end torque loss, but still fairly long when compared to a cam with Smaller Lift...

I am by no means "knowledgable" on this stuff, just learning a little bit here and there, and I get almost as much BS or "opinion" as good info...

I only know that you are always looking for a balance of sacrifices to get what you want when it comes to choosing your cam

I went with a Dave Mackie cam, basically because I heard he was really sharp, was "doing some neat things", and was different than S&S or Woods...

well i just finished my motor here are specs

woods - w6hf 650lift duration is 248
decked cylinders took .042 off. have them at 0
ported heads 5 angle valve job
cometic .036 head gasket
davinci carb super g
python pipe

clay tested motor and piston to valve there is alot of room .200
compression should be around 10.5.1
running 93 gas
so far motor runs good and doesnt seem like there is any flat spots

05 ridgeback what kind of hp numbers are you talking? where do you think its gonna be? and what did it cost you to do this work? thanks jim

here are the prices

port/polish head/valve job-425
deck cylinders-60
hone-50
rings-80
head gasket-40
misc gaskets-80
labor-12 hours

i did other stuff like diamond cut/powder coat
also put a S&S reed valve in -100
coolbreeze who is on this site did the work

i got to tell you this things revs fast . and you can feel the added compression just sitting on it. it has a rumble going through the frame

I have the same stuff as you pretty much, 130 hp is probably and illusion. Torque maybe close to that though. Have fun with all that power. Bet it sounds great.

these were just estimates. the power great so far. more than anything it is the torque when your cruising around 40-50 and give it throttle. have only taken it to 4000-4500 rpm since the rings are new. my bike being a ridgeback isnt the best bike to be going fast on. it was more for down low power i did it for

i know you dont think i got much for 425 the person that did it is very well know in our area and gave me a good price, as far as pics didnt get any cause i was sending out for powder coat. diamond cut. but i will say there was a r & r head in his shop that was the cnc cut one and things looked reallly close , i wasnt out to get the most power. when this project started i did it for the cosmetics , the power thing just kinda happened since it was apart.
