INFO FROM 02 PITBULL AND 2000 CLASSIC OWNERS

FATBOB STYLE SPILT TANKS / IS YOUR LEFT GAS CAP FAKE.?
I got 2 here to work on. 02 pitbull and 2000 vintage classic. the owner bought em used and is telling me the left cap is fake. neither left cap on either of the bikes will unscrew. on my 99 both come out. and every fatbob style split tank I have ever seen Harley, bigdog, or whatever, both come out. how would you ever fill both tanks if the left is a fake cap. (designed to not come out). I say his are just screwed up and are suppose to unscrew.. ????. his just wont. every one I have seen on big dogs the left is clockwise and the right is counter clockwise.
need someone that has a 02 pitbull or 2000 classic to answer... many thanks.

I had a 2001 Fatboy that was filled from one side. The other side had a cap with the fuel guage on it. It did not come off.

thank you. I know if there is a gas gauge in one side , then no it don't come out. and if it is a one piece tank like a Harley deuce or ultra it don't come out.. they look like fatbobs but are not the 2 piece slpit tanks.

if i am correct, the caps are both operative, just that one is righty-tighty and the other one is lefty-tighty.

yea,, mine both come out. otherwise I don't see how you would ever fill both sides. it would take awhile for the gas to flow from the right tank to left tank with only the small cross over line in the front and it would never actually have a full load of gas.

I have an 02 Pitbull and it has two caps. They must both be removed to fill the tanks. There is a cross-over hose, but it is only 1/4" and will not allow filling of both from one side. The right side cap is CCW to remove and the left cap is CW.

Mine both come out. One left hand one right. One is vented. Good luck

The left side is not a dummy. Turn it clockwise. Sometimes they swell up after time, and you might have to put channel locks to it. If that's the case, replace
