Appreciate all the insight. :cheers:I've always thought I needed two bikes. It's just hard to justify tieing up the money and space. There are some deals to be had this time of year. It's a lousy time to sell so I may just pick something up after doing some research and test rides and make my decision come spring. One of my best buddies is a salesman at Harely so I can take some test rides. I've rented a road king, street glide, wide glide, and road glide in the past 4 years. They don't give you that raw feeling or the look at me. I don't care about the latter to much anymore. I get stalked in the Camaro and it drives me nuts. I've also never ridden one that has the screaming eagle kit and pipes. I did ride my buddies Road King with just pipes and a programmer and it was respectable even with only 88 inches. I've never just jumped on my bike and rode to Colorado or South Dakota. I've never felt comfortable enough on the bike. My 03 Chopper was the most comfortable big dog I've ever owned. Maybe I just need a bigger garage.:D I'll get it figured out in the next couple months.
That sounds like the right approach. I too want something for longer distance riding. My Pitbull is a great bike & I have no intention of getting rid of it. It's just to damn nice a bike. I want to make some long trips, but they will have to wait until I can afford to spring for another bike without offing the dog.

I've thought about selling my 69 SS Camaro, but I just can't do it, so I will be patient. Besides, it gives me more time to narrow down my choices.:2thumbs:

I just bought an mint 06 road king custom but i think my 06 k-9 rides and fits me better also and my road king is tricked out with pipes ,commander ,stage 1,breather,all the screaming eagle shit and still by no means compares to the dog .I would rent a harley first and i bet if you do you will keep the dog .But if you do buy a harley you will have tons of new friends? HA HA HA

I wish I had more money.
What does something like that cost a guy? I really dig that one.

i know how you feel vegas, i have a 05 ridgeback and love it but wanted rear suspension. lucky for me my bigdog is almost paid for so i opted for a bagger. i will say i find myself always riding the bagger, its a fbi razorback

Vegas ,Bought a RoadKing Classic new in 03 it was nice for a couple of years then after a while I felt like something was missing ,been around open wheel modified race cars up here in the NorthEast all my life, and enjoyed that"EDGE" ...The RoadKing went and I picked up a beautiful pitbull..satisfied my need for ground pounding as well for my enjoyment of wrenching...I do miss the ole gal once in a while but being a local trucker on a fixed budget I can only afford 1. Basically it comes down to form..fit..and function..I wish you luck in your decision!!!!

I was renting E-Glides for my trips out to AZ, but it got way too expensive so I opted to buy a cheapo Jap cruiser and just keep it out there. After doing some research I picked up a Yamaha Roadstar, and I wasn't expecting much, but I love it. I was amazed at how much you can customize them, and how easy they are to work on and get parts for. I put over 6,000 miles on it in the 3 weeks I spent out there this fall, and I was never uncomfortable or tired of sitting. I also wrestle with the custom bike vs cruiser issue, especially now since I'm building something really radical that's not going to hold a passenger. I'm going to pick up another basket case Roadstar this summer, and trick it out to make a nice touring bike. My point is, don't rule out rice, it will be alot easier to make space in your garage if you don't have that heavy price tag. I would never want to be without a nice custom, but it's also nice to throw a chick on the back to go somewhere for a few days, and have room for more than a toothbrush once you pack your tools!

We build what you Dream!
Deals all over the place for used HD's. Suck it up. Buy a cheap HD someone has a fire sale on right now!

Damn Moe!

Whatcha saying here brother, the BDMs need a lot of constant maintenance and tools even while on the road?

I take care of all my maintenance before I leave on a trip and just have a tool roll on the bike. Never has let me down or stopped me from going anywhere yet! :2thumbs:

I like a challenge! :2thumbs:....:roll::roll::roll::roll:

:D:cheers:

not enough time 4 riding

So how much room do you need for a change of underwear?

I'll never forget the day I decided to sell my Fatboy back in 2003. I was out on a nice ride with a buddy doing a little bar hopping. We were headed out towards Boulder City and we came up on another Fatboy. To my astonishment it was two dikes. I swore I'd never ride a Harley again.

Another favoritte is when I rented a street glide when Cutter came out last year. My bike was apart for fork seals... Anyway, we are stopped on the way back from lunch on the other side of the hoover dam waiting on construction. This lady gets out of her SUV and said, " I have exactly the same bike".

I haven't made any firm decisions. I'm going to take my own advice and ride a few over at the dealer with some upgrades so I get a realistic feel for them. If I like what I feel and a realistic deal comes along......we'll see.

if its a choice of a road trip on a bike that other people have or no road trip at all then I know what I would rather do. You can always make the bike your own and unique anyway. Also, its not like there are no other big dogs on the road. Another option for you is to build your own. You got the skills and the knowledge - you can build the exact bike you are looking for and no other fucker on the planet will have one. If I were in your position that's definitely what I would do.

If I could only have one bike and wanted to do some long distances I would go with the Bulldog!!!! Check this one out. Almost bought it instead of my Mastiff.

I had a FatBoy Heritage from 1988-2003. When I sold it I thought my riding days were over.....by the way....purchased for $9500, sold for $12,000. It had some upgrades and a few extra ponies in the motor.

When the fat tire customs hit the market it was all over. I had never felt so at home on the new bike (03 BD Chopper). Since then I have, on rare occasions, test rode and looked at the full blown Geezer Classic......First off: full dresser is a bitch to move/muscle around.....Secondly: they feel gutless, lack the power now that I am used to the BD.

Would I consider a HD Dresser ? ..... Of course. Will I make the switch .... maybe .... but for now even at 68yrs .... until momma takes my keys away I'll stick with what I got.

I do love that bulldog but 40k for a new bike just doesn't make sense in this economy. (I hate using that term by the way) I can pick up used bikes for waaaaaay less than what they sold for a few short years ago. I don't see much of a chance of finding a bulldog used. If I was a rich man then I agree.

BD is cutting prices like crazy right now. You could probably get one for around $30,000.00. I know it's steep, but if you are going to off your Dog it would be a good down payment.
