Stopping by Chicks Custom Cycles , Virginia Beach Virginia not a BD dealer this evening to pick up some carb jets I got to talk to one of the wrenches ...he seemed to know his shit and was working on a custom build ...anyway he said that our bikes "mine 07" 117 are EPA motors? and that huge improvements could be made by changing to "Aftermarket Ignitions" because advance curves are set for clean burn and not power. This sounds like it could be true and makes sense but how much of a difference. Also clean burn to me means complete burn and that is a good thing ? Right. :loony:

You can get more power from an aftermarket ignition cause its tunable. The thunderheart one is not. However, that being said, to do it real nice... it will cost ya, cause you should dump the crank sensor, do a ignition in the nose cone which requires a new cam cover, and might as well get rid of the cheap bdm coils. You will spend almost $1000 to do it complete.

Wow .. I had noticed you are going that way with the Phoenix .I have a long way to go with my bike and still trying to decide what mods come first etc. Wish I had the coin to just do it all at once. $$$$$$$

I understand Scuba... if it weren't for my "push or maybe call it the fall" I can't say I would be doing all this stuff now.

Scuba if you really want the aftermarket ignition it still could be done for about $300. You can still use your coil, nose cone. There are units available such as the dynatec or crane HI4C that use a remote module similar to the thunderheart and also can use a crank sensor. These units will need a laptop to adjust the settings but they come with the software and cable needed. I will have to say though IMO the cam sensor is the better method.

I put in the dyna ignition (y2k if I remember), it has manual pre set settings that you can adjust also.

Yeah I should have mentioned that... but as you said... the old school style is tried and true.

Oh and this is the guy I have to thank for talking me into my setup. Which I'm sure I'll truely thank him later for... but right now the wallet just hurts and is givin my mangina a rash.

I hope you're right lee. I haven't done jack all week with the bike. Been working too much and visiting with my new niece. Family put it all on hold for a bit. But I plan on putting in some time Sat.
