Ignition Switch - Harness Jumper Part # 172-000001-00 ???????

Hi all, I have a question that hopefully someone will have some ideas about. I've recently purchased a 2005 Big Dog Chopper. On a recent ride the bike just cut out and no electrics were available, turn the key off then on and everything fine, it did this twice on the same ride. After some digging around the item that appeared to be causing the issue was the Ignition Switch - Harness Jumper Part # 172-000001-00, after dissecting it it was obvious that the resistor had a broken wire at one end. I removed this item and everything runs fine, then bought a new resistor and soldered it into place, two miles down the road and the bike cut out again, key off then on and all fine. My question is what does this resistor do and will anything be harmed by it's removal ???? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Not sure? But I am interested to fine out? I replaced my key switch, the new one did not have a resistor.

Sorry for the delay guys n gals, I've spoken to a very friendly chap at "Dead one customs" and he informs me that :-

Hello,
I believe that the part you are referring to is an additional sub-harness that contained a resistor inline to the Ign. Switch. If I'm correct with the previous. BDM only used that for a little while and then determined that it was not needed. So just leave the small sub-harness containing the resistor off, and just connect the Ign. Switch direct. You will be good!
fyi: "IF" the stalling persist, you may want to check your Ign. Switch for the possibility of the intermittent loss of continuity. It's known to happen w/ the older style Ign. Switches.
